Munich Train Station
 

Can someone tell me how to get from airport to train station. Heading to Innsbruck...Thanks

Couldn't be easier. Take the train from the airport terminal to the city. Very fast and very cheap.

The easiest way is to take the Lufthansa bus, unless you are arriving about 4 in the afternoon.


The S-Bahn has a station at the airport that goes eventually to the main train station. The trip takes about 50 minutes once you get moving.

The Lufthansa bus makes one stop enroute. The part I like is that your luggage is stored under the bus and you don't worry about it because the drive open the baggage area and presides over distribution.

I have tried both S-Bahn and bus and I prefer the bus.

I meant to say that the S-Bahn train goes eventually to the main train station. I know the station does not go, but I wrote it that way.

The Lufthansa bus picks up passengers at Terminal A and at the new Terminal.

The train from the airport to the central station takes 40 to 44 minutes depending on which train you take. It does make 12 stops enroute. I have also used the bus but since I fly US Air and arrival time is during morning rush I favor the train because the bus can be delayed in traffic. The choice is yours. Munich is a great city have fun.

I have also used the bus and the S-Bahn.
BTW, I do not think either option is particularly cheap, as a train ticket will set you back a (for my taste and for what's being offered) hefty € 8.20.
The bus will cost you around € 9.00, but your luggage is taken care of and it is quieter in general.
Just make your choice - not much to go wrong with in the essence.

Actually 8.20 euros from Munich airport to city is relatively cheap. Between September and December of this year I paid the following train fares between cities and their airports:

Paris to CDG 7.75 euros
Rome FCO to Rome 9.50 euros
ARN to Stockholm 180 KR or $24
Oslo to OSL 150 NOK or $18
FRA to Frankfurt 3.20 euros(a bargain)

European travel is not so cheap anymore.

If you are going from the Munich Airport directly to Innsbruck, you can probably make the connection more easily at the Munich East Station (Munchen Ost) instead of going all the way to the Munich Main Station (Munchen Hbf). Just ask at the S-Bahn ticket window at the Munich Airport. They can print you an itenerary showing where you change trains and what your schedule is.

I paid 4 Euro for a train from the Hauptbahnhof to the Munich Airport less than a month ago.

You can get the itinerary for the train from the DB railsite as well.

The trip on a no change connection takes an hour and 50 minutes.

The connections that involve a change are slower by 45 minutes.

One of the no change connections, leaves at 16:32 is slow.

Most of the no change connections leave from Track 12 or 13. As you face the trains, Track 12 is all the way to your right.

The station is a busy place, so make sure that the train you board is your train. There is a big central sign board that changes constantly with track information.

If you decide to do the S-Bahn:

there are two lines from the airport, S- and S-8. The S-8 will get you to the Munich Ost (East) station in seven stops; the S-1 does so in 12 stops.

Trains to Innsbruck are all routed through the Ost station and I suspect most of them stop there, as well.

The luggage issue may not be too significant since the train starts out at the airport. The cars don't have large luggage racks but they are roomy at the ends. Good luck
