We took the train from Prague to Regensburg with a stop in Pilzen (overnight) to visit the brewery, then we spent a couple nights in Regensburg. That is a beautiful city. In Regensburg we picked up a car rental (Europcar, booked with Auto Europe in the U.S.). Then we drove to Erding and spent the night in the little town of Etting (near the Munich airport). There is also public transportation from Regensburg to the Munich Airport and to Munich city center via train and bus. This worked out well for us.

I forgot to say that Prague Main station has pickpockets.

Ben Haines, London

We went from Munich to Nuremberg and then on to Prague. I think it took about 8 hrs or so. It was in August, I'm not exactly sure on the time, but I do believe it's in that ballpark! Be prepared - the change from the German trains to the Czech trains is quite dramatic as far as comfort!

We took the train from Munich to Prague the first week in November. I 2nd the opinion regarding the difference in the German and Czech accomodations. The Czech cars are much older. We were in first class however and were certainly comfortable in both, the major difference seemed to be in 2nd class. There were very few people in first class on this train, most compartments were empty.

Be aware that both the Czech and German customs agents will come through. I had to open one bag for the Czech one and he was very interested in our video camera. Of course, it may have been that my two male traveling companions (I am female)had chosen that moment to go the the bar and there I was with a compartment filled to the top with luggage! I will never let them forget that!!

There is an 8 minute train change at Nuremburg which caused a little stress, but we made it ok, you just can't dally. You have to go down one flight of stairs, across and back up. Just have your luggage and be at the door ready to hop off when the train stops. And if you don't have time to find the correct car, just get on and then find it.

It was a lovely ride through the mountains with castles topping the hills in the distance periodically.
