Munich to Innsbruck

I will be in Munich next week for 5 days. I want to go to Innsbruck for the day and see the Swarovski store. All the day tours I see are finished for the year. Looking to take the train on my own from Munich to Innsbruck. Is this a good idea? Is the store far from the train station? Many day tours I'd like to go on won't be offered until next Spring. Obviously not the best time to visit, but didn't have a choice. I had also wanted to go to Zugspitze Mt. but those tours aren't available either.

a piece of cake by hourly or so trains right to heart of town with transport links anywhere in the urban area from the station (if that store is not in the center which is a easy walk from the train station (Innsbruck is not nearly as big as say Munich.

Nab discounted train tickets at www.bahn.de/en - the German Railways site- much cheaper if done far enough in advance to get the limited in number discounted ducats than just showing up - always possible - no such thing as sold out trains -seat reservations optional.

For lots on German trains ccheck not only www.bahn.de/en but www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

First class tickets are also discounted and at times may not be much more than the cheapest available 2nd class ones and if coming back laden with shopping you'll find easier finding a place to put them by your seat.

NOW SOMEONE PLEASE TELL WHAT IS THE Swarovski STORE ALL ABOUT, PLEASE- BEEN TO INNSBRUCK SEVERAL TIMES BUT SHOPPING IS NOT MY BAG!

I just saw it advertised on the Internet. Looks like it's their flagship store. I've seen some pretty jewelry with their crystals and it's much cheaper than precious stones. Some of the items can get pricey though. Unfortunately, I never met a souvenir shop I didn't like ! Thanks for the info.

Sorry, Innsbruck is but you will also find Swarovski in Munich.

Well there are other reasons for going to Innsbruck - beautiful city -a taste of Austria - leave time to wander around the old town area and its neat parks and churches.

Swarowski is in the historic center and an easy walk from the train station.

You don't need a »tour« to go up to the Zugspitze. Just take the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn (departs opposite the Garmisch railway station) to the Eibsee Station and from there the funicular (the rack railway from Eibsee to the summit is closed for revision in mid-November). What you need, however, is clear weather.

Did you mean the shop in Innsbruck town centre (and is that any different from their shops in Munich?), or the Kristallwelt at Wattens, which sounds like more of a theme park?

If you do want to go to Wattens, you take a further train from Innsbruck station to Fritzens-Wattens station (15 minute journey), and it looks as though it's about a half-mile walk from there.

Beg pardon, checking on www.bahn.de it looks as though, for Wattens, you can change at Kufstein rather than Innsbruck, depending on what time of day you travel. But Innsbruck town centre is worth a look in its own right.

You can also take a cable car to the top of several mountains from Innnsbruck. Nordkette on the north side (- can be reached by tram or bus) , and Patcherkofel to the south (bus ride from Innsbruck)

You can take the mountain tram to Igls - site of old Winter Olympics ski jump and a neat area- visit the Schloss Ambras on the edge of Innsbruck - really neat place - is on that tram route.

We visited the Swarovski attraction in Wattens about 5 years ago. I was very excited. It has maybe 30 museum type objects made of crystal and a VERY disappointing gift shop. The same items as in your favorite mall's Swarovski store. I left with a pen filled with crystals.
