Munich to Garmisch
I'm relatively new to the board, my wife introduced me to it recently, but, it has helped me immensely in planning my trip to Germany. I do have one question, how is the drive from Munich to Garmisch? Is it pretty flat or does one have to navigate windy mountain roads? Thanks for your time and help.

It's about 65 beautiful miles.

Just did that trip a month ago. I was coming from Munich Airport so picked up the Romantic Road in Landsberg. Nice rolling hills until you reach Ettal (nice church to visit there), after which it gets a bit steeper and winding before it flattens out before Garmisch. Nothing really to be concerned about. I didn't take A95 from Munich but I doubt if you'll run into winding mountainous on that route either.

A few hills, but certainly no mountains at all, nor really anything winding.

Yo!

You will love the area. Take the Autobahn route, I believe its the "95" and it should lead you right into Garmish! The big mountains start just after Garmish so the trip is easy and flat. It should take about 1 1/2 hours at Autobahn speeds!

JOH

The secondary highways are much more beautiful than the boring autobahn route! And locals will tell you that the autobahn is frequently crowded at this time of year (summer), so you end up going slow anyway. Plus there is tons of road work in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland due to the good weather, further slowing you down a lot (to 60kph) We're just back from three weeks there, so I know what I'm talking about!

I did the drive while staying in garmisch two years ago..we drove from there to Oktoberfest in munich, there was road construction going on , but once you're on the Autobahn, its about 10 exits to munich...
