Lots to see between Munich and Frankfurt. Anything in particular you are interested in?

Right off the top of my head, I'd say Regensburg, Bamberg and/or Wurzburg.

If you are interested in smaller towns then I can recommend Tuebingen, a lovely university town on the Neckar River, on your way to the Mosel/Rhine River area. There are many interesting little wine towns along the river as well as the larger city of Trier -- the oldest town in Germany.

Munich, Nördlingen, Dinkelsbühl, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Langenburg, Kirchberg an der Jagst, Schwäbisch Hall, Waldenburg, Neuenstein, Weinsberg, Heilbronn, Bad Wimpfen, Burg Guttenberg, Burg Hornberg, Neckarsteinach, Neckargemünd, Heidelberg, Flughafen Frankfurt.

Drive to Rothenburg, on the not very Romantic Road IMO and then take the very romantic Castle Road along the Neckar River Valley to Heidelberg - not far from Frankfurt and a dreamy city with a dreamy castle popping out of it. Heidelberg was one of the few German towns not blitzed to dust in WW2 so retains old-world charm lacking in say Frankfurt or Munich or any large town really IMO

Palenque,
I think we are in agreement

yes - you gave it town by town which i could not do - but having done that route i know it is really a sweet one!

Your description sounds much more interesting than my listing of towns. I've done some of them and we are returning in Sept and should catch the rest. It will be the first time that just my wife and I are flying to Germany. No trip to Neuschwanstein this time!

norrisken, don't overlook Feuchtwangen. It's a lovely little town.
