Munich to Austria
Wanting to travel from Munich to Asturias and back in about 3 days. Looking for some suggestions on what's good to check out and maybe a good place to stay!
|
Asturias or Austria? The first destination is probably impossible in a three day round trip. Salzburg is a logical destination for a three day outing to Austria.
|
You can take the train to Innsbruck also. You would enjoy stopping in Garmisch along the way.
|
Where do you want to go in Austria?
Coming from Munich, you can cross the border at more than 15 different points and you wil arrive in more than 15 different Austrian areas. It makes a difference whether you want to go to Lake Constance, to Lake Achen, to the Krimml waterfalls, to the glaciers of Oetztal, to the hills around Neuschwanstein castle, to the Dachstein caves, to Mauthausen concentration camp, to the Grossglockner road, to the Danube Valley or to towns like Innsbruck, Salzburg or Vienna. |
Trains are great in Austria and Germany too -if going to Salzburg you can use the bargain Bavarian Pass - bought at stations day of travel - restricted to regional trains but just slightly slower than faster ones. For lots on trains check www.bahn.de/en; www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.
Salzburg would be perfect - take a day trip by post bus to the famous Lake District just east of town - a k a Sound of Music Country. |
I was in Munch and Salzburg this past summer and I probably enjoyed Salzburg more, even though both were good. Lots shops, food, nice parks, and great beer to drink!
|
Yes Salzburg 3 nights
or Salzburg 2 nights scenic route to Innsbruck - 1 night train to Munich. |
If Salzburg you could take a day excursion by bus or tour to the Lakes District just east of Salzburg (a k a Sound of Music Country).
