Munich-Salzburg-Vienna-Prague-Berlin 3 week Itinerary by car

I know this is a much dealt with area in the forum, mostly about transport means. We are picking up a (purchased) car in Munich so are using it to drive to our destinations (and probably spending more on parking it, I know). I wanted to do Lucerne and Innsbruck also, but hate not really having enough time in any place to give it its due. Our plans so far:
Munich 2 nights (we have briefly visited before), Salzburg 3 nights, Hallstatt 1 night (don't want to just go directly on the autobahn), Vienna 4 nights, Prague 4 nights, Dresden 1 night, and Berlin 3-4 nights. We have always traveled in Sept/Oct but want to try May/June this trip.
Is this a fair distribution of our time (3 weeks)? ANY ideas on the must-sees and where to stay (preferably smaller places, nice B & B's our favorites) in each location would be great from this wonderful community. Museums are not high on my husband's list - but he will do the obligatory ONE without fuss. I would love to experience my first (only?) opera, I appreciate a good tour guide to give us the history ...
Thank you.

Something is not clear. Are you intending to drive straight through to each destination in one day? If so, there is a lot in between the destinations that you are missing, such as what is between Vienna and the Czech border and between that border and Prague.

Michael,
Precisely the information I would like to find out about!
We heard about the "long" way from Salzburg to Vienna which is why we are stopping in Hallstatt. Only constraint is the 3 weeks time frame of the trip.
Any suggestions will be very appreciated! And I love your pictures.
Thank you

Michael, I love love love your photos, especially the older ones. Do you have a trip report from the 1975 trip to Czechoslovakia?

That was before the Internet, and I only started writing reports when I could post them.

From Hallstaat you could drive north toward Linz, then follow the scenic route to Melk and Krems along the Wachau Valley en route to Vienna.

Going from Vienna to Prague you could explore the Czech cities of Brno and Znojmo. There are also several beer and wine trails throughout Bohemia that would keep you off the autobahn, as well.

Thank you for your replies. So we have decided to eliminate Dresden and Berlin. The Romantic Road through St. Wolfgang, Hallstaat, etc seems to be worth taking more seriously. Any suggestions on how long to stay for instance in Hallstatt and then another stop before Vienna?
I see Brno and Znojmo are mentioned for the trip north to Prague. Any more details would be great.
