One place we like is the
Ratskeller, at Marienplatz under the Neues Rathaus (the glockenspiel). It's in the cellar and has a nice but sometimes noisy atmosphere. They serve German food but other stuff as well. They also have non-smoking areas which is pretty rare around here. It's a popular place so it wouldn't hurt to bop by and reserve for later, or show up early. Their number is 2199890 or [email protected]. If you can tolerate vegetarian food :) a nice place is Prinz Myshikin at Hackenstrasse 2, ph 265596. It also has non-smoking and a pleasant atmosphere. They have a lot of good stuff to pick from and are pretty popular. It's just off Sendlingerstrasse, southish of Marienplatz. For decent Greek food you could try Kiri's Tavern at Sebastiansplatz 8, ph 2604662, right by the Viktualienmarkt. The food is fairly good and you can either sit outside or in the tiny inside. If you like pizza cooked in a wood burning oven, L'angolo at Breisacher Strasse 30 is really good, ph 4488979. It's a little east (north east?) of Ostbahnhof. It's really really popular with locals. Another good one in Schwabing is Bei Mario at Adalbertstr. 15, ph 2800460. For something completely different you could have Ethiopian food at Blue Nile, Siegesstr. 22a in Schwabing, ph 342389. |
The Spatenhaus was one of our favorites along with the Augustiner Keller Beer Garden.

We had a nice and not very expensive meal at the Liebighof at Liebigstrasse 14, not a very long walk from the Shack-Galerie. We dined outside, but it looked nice inside, too.

ditto on the ratskeller and hofbrau haus - liked them both; also enjoyed movenpik and had incredible ice cream desserts there.
