Munich restaurant recs
 

I will be there in a week and would appreciate suggestions in the moderate to Michelin star category. It would be nice if near our lodging, Maximillian Munich, Hochbruckenstrabe 18, but would love to hear all.

We are taking a day trip to Salzburg by train, so if you have a lunch or dinner suggestion for there, please share (should I be starting a separate thread for this?)

When I want to find a good restaurant, I usually ask the people at the hotel for recommendations so that I don't have to go a long way to find dinner.

Do you care what kind of food and does the atmosphere make a major difference? I ask because I know of several establishments. One, for example, is extremely popular but if you don't relish the idea of roasted pork and a somewhat noisy atmosphere then forget it.

Sorry Dukey1, I am rushing a bit to gather a few last bits of info. We do prefer quieter as my husband has a hearing issue. Sitting outside when available often solves that problem. Pork is not a problem as long as there are some other meat and fish options and a good vegetable selection. We are not really looking for steakhouses. German, French, Italian, Mediteranean, as long as it is done well, we are open to it. We don't need big portions.

We eat at Augustiner a lot, it is our favourite but might be a bit noisy for you. You can ask for the quieter section though.

Now, since I know your eating preferences, a beer hall like recommended above is probably nothing for you.

We have eaten recently in a restaurant that has a Michelin star, but is anything than posh, in fact quite informal (we had been eating in the garden on a warm summer evening and it was more like a neighbourhood dinner). The chef is from Brittany and cooks with the freshest and best ingredients you can imagine. Moderately priced, certainly much lower than other starred restaurants:

I also happen to really enjoy Prinz Myshkin, which is about 15 minutes walking from you, but I think it drives some people crazy. The food is usually exceptionally fresh though.

They have very good seafood in the restaurarants in the Viktullienmarkt.

Also, if I were staying where you are, I would go to the area of Pfarrkirche Sankt-Anna, in the direction of Lehel. It's a beautiful area, and only a 10 minute walk away. There are many gastropub type restaurants there, and an Italian called Vecchia Laterna. (Sorry for all these Italian recommendations, but I don't care for Bavarian food, so I usually try to eat Italian or tapas when I visit).
