Munich - Refugee/Immigration Concerns

Hello, I'm traveling for work to Munich, followed by Kehl/Strasbourg in mid-November. While I'm in Munich, my fiance was going to meet up with me for the weekend. I was wondering if due to the refugee/immigration crisis (for lack of a better term) in Europe, with Munich being the primary destination, maybe we should reconsider. My fiance has not traveled much, so getting around on her own to meet up with me will already be a concern of mine. Given potential overcrowding, I will of course have even more concern. Has anyone been there recently, or know if this should really be a concern of mine? We essentially have a free hotel room for the weekend, and all we need to do is pay for her flight to have a weekend in Munich, but I want to make sure the benefit will be worth the cost.

Any advice you have is helpful. Thank you!

Don't worry, Germany is a sophisticated country with great wealth, organisation and a lot of drivers to help refugees, Munich is also not in the some of the "odder" part of the old East Germany which is struggling with the concept.

You'll be fine.

On the other hand I prefer Strasbourg to Munich and if I was your fiance I'd want to go there. :-)

Don't be a wuss. It will be fine. They won't be overcrowding any tourist things you will want to do. You might even get to observe a demonstration or three.

Thanks bilboburgler. I'm actually taking her to Strasbourg with me but don't have any concerns there. Only concern is that she'll be enjoying herself while I'm working during the day in Kehl.

I'll be there on the 12th.
We didn't even consider the remote possibility that there might be a problem.
Maybe I should call my colleague who lives there to ask if there is a situation that he would have forgotten to warn me about. Maybe I'd get a good laugh frmo him, but probably exasperation.
Mvg.

I will be there Nov 6-8 and can report when I get back.

Fox News would have you believe that the place is crawling with refugees and ISIS agents dressed as women but talking to friends back there, that is so not the case.

Only concern is that she'll be enjoying herself while I'm working during the day in Kehl.

This is a real concern as she will surely be having a better time than you will because she won't be working :)

Fox News, .... the Daily Mail of the US (what little old ladies (men, women and fearful) use to read about the world outside their lace curtains), owned by an American citizen (was Australian, but gave it all up to satisify US laws) born-again christian and generally a mutt (self made man as it says on his biography, all he got from his father was a publishing empire) etc etc Famously "humble" just before he got flaned in the UK.

Fox News, probably not the best guide to world events, think up there with Russia Today.

I am German and can assure you that you will not be affected by refugees. You will probably not see them and if you do you will not recognize them.

Was just in Munich last month. Aside from presence at rail station, and media coverage, was not an issue and saw no evidence. I am more concerned with Paris as Kerouac has reported alien invasion.

Munich is not the destination but major port of entry for refugees. So even when you read that so and so many 100K refugees have arrived at Munich central station, they do not stay in Munich. But get registered and then get evenly allocated (sorry, not exactly appropriate in context of human beings) across the country. So only a small number of refugees actually stay in Munich.

I was on and off the train in Munich several days this month and only saw one family of refugees in the train station. We rode the trains everyday and saw none on the trains. We saw more of them in Paris and trust me they are harmless and were not begging or being a nuisance. Just very sad and looking tired and lost.
