Munich-Lufthansa Bus/Hotel ??'s
I see that there is a bus available between the airport and Munich for about 10 euros one way. This sounds very convenient for me, as I am a solo female senior and will have 1 or 2 suitcases. Is there a nice hotel a short walk from the bus drop in Munich? OR...is there a taxi stand where I can get a ride to hotel? Haven't selected a hotel yet. This will just be for 1 night, then back to the airport to meet a tour group. I had planned to stay in Freising or Erding, but with this bus option perhaps Munich city center is an option I should consider.

The NH Deutscher Kaiser is a hotel on the other side of the street where the airport bus will terminate (at the central station).
NH is a spanish chain of hotels with a more modern edge, so don't expect a cosy Bavarian interior. But you can find dozens of other hotels in easy reach from many downtown stops with the suburban trains. Cost for train is 8.80 Euros, not much difference to the bus. Going back TO the airport, I'd strongly recommend the suburban train, though, since travel time is more or less secured with the trains while you never know what kind of heavy traffic the bus will get into. |
The bus stops in Schwabing and main train station. If you stay at the Renaissance or Marriott in Schwabing, then you can just cross the street to take the bus. I believe it's less than half an hour to the airport. Alternatively, you can stay near the Hauptbahnhof, but the bus ride will be longer. My wife took the bus alone and thought it's easier since she gave the luggage to the driver till the airport arrival and also faster than the S bahn train.

If you purchase an Munich Metro Entire Network Day Ticket (MVV Gesamtnetz Tageskarte) for €10, it will cover your transportation to anywhere in Munich, not just a hotel near "drop points" plus any other travel in the Munich area on the day you arrive.

It gets even better: The roundtrip ticket is EUR 16.00 only on the bus.
And just on the other side of the station there is a brilliant Sofitel. |
There is a great Le Meridien across the street from the Hauptbahnhof, which would be accessible by S Bahn (very easy) or the bus.
Also, if you didn't want to lug your luggage around, you could stay at the Kempinski AT the airport (just a 20 second walk outside the terminal, and closer than the train station!) and just use the bus or train to journey into Munich. |
