Munich in Oct

I will be going to Germany Oct 8th and the plan is to fly into Franfurt, pick up our car and drive around for two weeks, leaving from Munich Oct 21st. I thought this was a good plan since Octoberfest will be over on Oct 2nd, and would miss the crowds that stayed. But now after doing some research I am finding out that most of the day tours end mid Oct. I am not sure if I'll be able to take day tours, and I am concerned about the weather in Berchtesgaden. Should I change my plans and fly into Munich and fly out of Franfurt? Will the crowds still be around on the 8th?

Greetings from München.
The crowds come and go like locusts :-)
They're suddenly there, but leave very soon after the party's over. However, the best time in Munich is after christmas in winter.

I'm not sure i understand all of this: you will be renting a car but are asking about "day tours."

To where? Please explain more.

I've been to Munich in october and had a wonderful time; weather not too cold, etc.
