I see that you have been a guest at the Kimpinski. I will be going in October (2007)for two weeks and have mixed feeling about booking my stay there. When I looked for a hotel, I looked at is star rating. Kimpinski is rated a 5 star hotel (which in Hawaii (where I live) is a nice place). Now I have heard from several people on this site that it is not a nice Hotel. Please tell me it isnt so??? I really wanted to stay in a great area and stay at a Old (but nice) hotel. Are the rooms really that small?

I don''t know if I can comment on room-size but you might want to shop by the number of stars. This is even though the star levels are awarded based on stuff other than room size like whether or not they have a concierge.

I don't think I have ever booked through them because I have found better prices but a good place to shop is OctopusTravel.com. They have pictures of the hotels and some of the rooms. Look in the area around the main train station so you are close to the fussganger zone.

We like a 3* hotel called the Drei Lowen.

by the way.... as someone asked here sometime before.... is it der Sex Shops or die Sex Shops?

We were totally disappointed with the rooms in Kempinski's Vier Jahreszeiten on Maximilianstr, they absolutely didn't meet the name & reputation, thus far I haven't heard of any renovation. I also remember how the hotel was full of rich Russians when we were staying there. However you may especially enjoy the location if you are into high end brand name shops. It's also convenient to walk to the Residenz and Marienplatz.

Aisleseat: der Shop (singular) and its Denglish(Deutsch-English) plural is die Shops.

Hotel Konigshof or Le Meridien. Traveling to Munich with high profile clients and want the best for them, it's during Oktoberfest. These are my only options, all else is booked. Which hotel would you choose. Thanks so much.

We stayed at the K+K am harras last year at Oktoberfest time. I booked it with Orbitz for 154 Euro per night including breakfast.. The hotel is very beautiful and there is a subway right across the street and 10 minute to the marienplatz. Our room was a superior double and the biggest room we had in Europe. The bathroom was wonderful. Staff very helpful. Breakfast room had everything anybody would want. About one mile from the fest grounds.

We also liked Le Meridien. We were comped an upgrade and had a huge room. Modern decor, great service. Across the street from the Hauptbahnhof. About 125 euro for a double.

Just got back from Munich trip so both hotels are fresh in my mind.

Koenigshof: classic elegant rooms with doormen and excellent location but the actual building exterior is a terrible eyesore. The restaurant inside Koenigshof is one of the handful restaurants in Munich that received a Michelin star. More expensive than Le Meridien.

Le Meridien: Great modern hotel also formal with excellent proper service. Very nice modern bedrooms and public rooms. We like the cool lounge and also the breakfast restaurant. Every room has a large 42 inch flat screen TV. The downside is location because it's right across the street from the Train station just like the Sofitel so you'll see more filth than in Karlsplatz.

Hotel Anna: same owner as Koenigplatz (Geisel hotels). All the rooms on the 5th & 6 floor have flat TV and wood floor. The lower floors have carpet and old 13 inch bulky TV's. We loved the junior suites which overlooks Karlsplatz. I would say the standard rooms are comparable to rooms at Le Meridien. The only complain we have was the non existent lobby, but that's not important to us. Breakfast uffet is not as good as Le Meridien, but they do try their best, they make eggs anyway you want along with the regular buffet spread. We prefer to stay near Karlsplatz over the train station though both are just a couple blocks away from each other.
