Can you recommend two or three hotels from the following list? Likewise, if there are any I definitely should NOT consider, please let me know as well.

Hotel Uhlan, Acanthus, Tryp, Monaco, Laimer, Jeddermann, Deutsches Theatre, Herzog, and Amba.

I am basically looking for a decent, clean, safe place to stay on the lower end of the budget scale. Any help you can give me with choosing one will be very greatly appreciated!!

I would definutely recommend the Uhland and the Acanthus; the latter is air conditioned but I don;t believe the Uhland is, in case that is an issue for you.

Uhland is fine but back by the Oktoberfest grounds (although a bus stops right at the corner). My favorite is Amba, right across the street from the main train station & much more convenient to the Ped. Zone. (You'll never know the station is there)Probably $20/night more than Uhland. I've also stayed in the Monaco but remember little of it. Stayed at Amba 4 or 5 times, that speaks for itself.

We are staying at the Hotel Laimer this summer - I have not stayed there before, so I can't give a personal recommendation, but everyone we have talked to any every review we have read has been very positive. Our rate is $105/night.

The Uhland fit the bill for the 4 of us. Place to park the rental car. Close enough to public transport that we didn't need to use the car. Helpful staff. Nice rooms. Great breakfast. Internet access.

We loved the charming Hotel Uhland. It's a sort of converted mansion with lots of character in a pretty and upscale neighborhood. About ten minute walk to main train station, maybe twenty minute walk to Marianplatz. Free bikes to borrow from the Hotel. Very clean, nice staff at front desk, great breakfast room and buffet, internet and complimentary coffee in a sitting room off the lobby. Highly recommend it.

I've stayed at the Jedermann and thought the location was great - just a few blocks past the Hauptbahnhof. A tram stops nearby. Great breakfast, super helpful staff, clean (like all German hotels) and reasonably priced. They have a free computer for checking your e-mail.

I can echo Zeus - have stayed at the Jedermann a couple of times and it it very pleasant and value for money, good breakfasts, good location and easy access into the centre. Not opulent, but provides a good base for exploring the city. Opposite the European Patent Office (a large grey metallic building) where I used to work. I stayed at the Jedermann for my interview for my job there!

I too recommend the Jedermann--stayed there in June 2001 and again in 2004 for Oktoberfest--both pleasant experiences. Will be staying there again this September, if things go my way! :)

So no one has stayed at the 1st Creative Elephant? Funky place... we're booked there for 1 night.

After we go "in country" then we return and I'me thinking Deutches Theater.

Anyone have any comments?

I had picked Acanthus for our stay in Munich but the popular vote seems to be Hotel Uhlan, should I change my reservations.

If A/C is not an issue, sure why not. You won't know for sure if it is good or not until you actually stay there. Have you looked at the reviews on TripAdvisor?

gary - Out of the hotels you have on your list I would think that the Uhland and Jedermann are the best. I would drop Monaco off your list, and maybe add Hotel Schlicker. If you don't mind a noisy room, you could look for a room facing the Hofbrauhaus at the Platzl. I think you can find those for under $100.

I just read the reviews on Trip Advisor and Jedermann and Acanthus have better reviews than Hotel Uhland, especially as far as location.
