MUNICH: Hotel Schlicker v. Cortiina
 

Hi,

I am planning a trip for myself and my sister to Munich in late May 2009. I am having difficulty chosing between two hotels, even after reading countless reviews here and on TA. Has anyone stayed at or heard good things about the Hotel Schlicker or the Cortiina?

I will be spending 3 days there in Feb. Will let you know how it was. The price, location and reviews in guidebooks and TA, helped me make my decision.

LOL. I am so sorry :-D. Hotel Schlicker @ around 130$, not Euro.

BTW, the Cortina was coming in pretty pricey IMO.

My wife and I have stayed at Hotel Schlicker every time we have been to Munich starting in 1976.

It's on Tal Strasse, just around the corner from the Victualienmarkt and near the Rathaus with its famous chimes with the dancing figures. The Hofbrauhaus and the Residenz are quite near.

From the street, you would hardly know this hotel is there. I seem to recall a McDonald's was near the entrance but a few doors down, toward Isar Tor.

But go inside and you find the hotel is in two buildings, with the breakfast room in the rear building. We suspect the hotel is family run. It's safe, clean, and very unpretentious. Totally German.

We like a certain room up at the top, one flight up from the elevator's top stop, with views all over the central city.

This garret room has one feature that you might not like -- it's near a church belfry, and the big bells make quite a racket when they clang out their tunes. We love it.

If you are looking for location, location, location, the Schlicker is hard to beat.
