Munich hotel recommendations
 

We had planned to spend 3 nights in Munich before heading to Prague.
Looking for hotel recommendations, good location. Or close to a train station.
I have been looking and found prices quite expensive for the 3 nights. So I googled special events in Munich and find that there is a big Salsa event on in Munich from the 6-8th of October.
I though I was doing ok by avoiding Octoberfest but now its Salsa!

Dates aren't really flexible as we will need to depart for Prague on the 12th October.
Suggestions anyone?

The B&B does look nice. Not sure whether it is a little far out of the centre of town.

It's probably not so much the Salsa festival (I have never, ever even heard about it and cannot imagine that it will have a significant impact on hotels) but the aftermath of Oktoberfest.
While the beerfest officially closes on Sunday 6th, you can still "feel" the impact on hotel vacancies for several more days. Same at the beginning of Oktoberfest when hotels fill up already several days before the action starts.
You can try to extent your search radius to 20-50kms (which is roughly how far the suburban trains go), or try Augsburg, which is just 30-45mins by regular trains. Or pay 2-3 times the normal rate at the few remaining hotels in Munich.

I emailed some of the hotels and yes it is an international Salsa Congress. Finishes on the 8th October and all hotel prices are 2/3 cheaper from the 9th onward.

There are a few cheaper options a little way out.
Wondering whether it is worth booking 1 night somewhere and moving into the centre for the remaining 2 nights. Although not a big fan of moving.
We depart for Prague from the main train station.

You said you want to stay in Munich for 3 nights leaving for Prague on the 12th. That would put you at Oct. 9 as your first night when the rates are 2/3 cheaper.

What did I miss?

Dates for Prague were wrong, leaving Munich on the 11th Oct for Prague. Prague is locked in as we depart for home from Prague.

I'd probably bite the bullet and spend the extra money for the first night and get the next two nights at the much lower rate if we aren't talking a difference of over a hundred dollars or so.

Does the average cost per night over the three nights work out to something you can live with?

The difference is $300 more for the first night compared to the price for the 2nd night and thats not even the best hotels!
Salsa must be big or they are hoping that its big!

I really enjoyed the Hotel Uhland, which is small and friendly and on a nice residential street near the Oktoberfest site. I was there in January when it was very quiet.

We stayed in Augsburg during Oktoberfest and felt it was a good location without paying the exorbitant hotel rates in Munich.

There are all classes of hotels near the main train station. If you don't mind cookie cutter American style hotels we have gotten good deals on the Marriott Courtyard close to the Bahnhof.. We also like a little place called the Reinbolt near that same area. I have also heard good things about the Blauerbock close to the Viktualien Markt.

We stayed at a Marriott which was one stop on the train line to the main square area. Very nice hotel with a/c, good breakfast and nice big pretzels when you check in. It is in a suburban neighborhood, but a short walk to the train.

I looked at the Marriott but it is 399euro for the first night due to a special event! The Sals convention. Further nights are 199euro.
nearly 800 euro for 3 nights is too expensive for just a bed.

Reinbolt hotel is 730euro.

So my search goes on.

Check out Hotel Wallis. I've never stayed there but it looks ok. Check tripadvisor.com and hotels.com for reviews.

I just looked up Booking.com and found more than 10 hotels for Oct 8-11 that were under $200/nite for doubles and are located pretty close to a Ubahn station. One was under $125/nite. Several were within walking distance of the main train station. There were also several apartments under $200/nite. You can also try Venere.com, HRS.com. Hotels.com, Accor.com...

I have had an offer from Hotel Uhland, although 214euro for the first night the other nights are about half that.
I have been searching through Booking.com etc and then trying to review them on trip advisor. So many mixed reviews.I have also looked at Hotels.com and Accor.
But I am definitely making a decision this weekend. I need to move on from Munich decisions!
I still have other places to look for accommodation.

I have valued everyones imput greatly.
