Munich Hotel during Octoberfest
 

Looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Munich with a good location. Doesn't have to be fancy just clean for two people.

We stayed at Platz Hotel which is around the corner from the Hofbrauhaus. Good location to the city but it may be more than you want to spend. 246 euro.

We were in Munich the week before Octoberfest and then toured the country side ending in Nurenburg. This city is well worth visiting and then you can hop on a train and get to Munich in about an hour, hop in a cab to Octoberfest and then have a very interesting visit.

You may find cheaper hotels doing it this way then in staying in Munich. Either way, it was so much fun!

Book early. The hotels, particularly the ones close to the Oktoberfest grounds jack up their prices during the event. The Platzl mentioned above is very nice but not the least expensive. There are tons of hotels of all price classes near the main train station which is pretty close to th O'fest.

The hotel where I usually stay is booked even the week before Oktoberfest. I assume there is a convention in town. Their rates went from $92 per night to $302 per night. WOW! I was trying for September 14-17. Think I'm just going to book my last night at the airport and stay the other nights in Mittenwald.

If you can give an upper price range we can help more. It is not too late to make a reservation now but, as Aisle Seat said, the earlier the better. I made my reservation for this year's Fest before Christmas last year.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was able to book the Letomotel about 15 min. on the metro outside of Munich for 487 euros for 3 nights. Thought that was pretty decent.

It is nothing fancy but gets great reviews on tripadvisor. We can also cancel by August 30th if we need to.

Going to munich during "Oktoberfest"- time and looking for a nice accomodation is really difficult, however.

This year we already booked our holiday appartment in january
on this page (http://www.atraveo.de/m%c3%bcnchen) and we luckily found a nice, cheap and good located place to stay.. The last years i paid way too much for a hotel, and it was not worth it (they are nearly double the prices at this time..)

So booking a long time in advance is the best advice i could give you..

Carley- having never heard of this motel (Turns out it is only 1 1/2 years old) I checked the rates out. They quoted me 372 Euros per night for a double during the 'Fest so if you got a double for 162 Euros per night yesterday you got a very good deal!

I got the rate through booking.com. I was happy with the rate, reviews were good and I can cancel by Aug. 30th as we aren't 100% sure we will be able to go as my husband has to have eye surgery.

There are very few rooms left in and around Munchen. The advice above to book early was essential. We also thought of going and looked for some hotels. We'll probably choose the one slighly below 100 euro per night: http://hotelsrooms.blogspot.de/2012/...fest-2012.html

OP's motel is in fact a hotel.
It has become an odd fashion in Germany to name hotel chains as "motels" even though they look nothing like a US motel, and usually don't even offer (free) parking. Motel One is another chain which also has nothing to do with motels. In general, these hotel-motels offer a bit less service and rooms are usually a bit smaller. Emphasis on "a bit".
While I don't stay at hotels in my own town so I can't say anything about the interior, the Letomotel has perfect transportation option. S1 trains from the airport call literally at the doorstep of the hotel. That line also takes you to the Oktoberfest grounds in 10 minutes (Hackerbrücke station), subway U3 (also right at the hotel) to the historic city center/ Marienplatz in 15 minutes. Or the tram, but that will take a bit longer.
So even if you spend the night in town (Oktoberfest shuts down each night pretty early), you won't need a taxi if you get back before 1am.

Hotel Pension Westfalia. Unpretentious but comfortable. Very near the Oktoberfest grounds.

Good luck on your search. My experience is that Munich Hotels jack up thier prices by as much as three times the normal price during Octoberfest. They fill up months early especially those close to the O'fest grounds. Since we are already into the festival now the pickings may be slim. I would start with the usual Hotels.com or Octopustravel.com websites to see if you get lucky.
