Munich for Christmas
 

Has anyone been to the Black Forest or Munich during this time of year?

We have spent several Christmas's in Munich and will be back again this year. How can we help you? It is a great time to visit Munich will the Christmas Markets and the Crib market.

Are you there gtr? Are you planning a trip soon?

Are you planning to go during the Christmas holidays or before?

We'll be there too. Arriving on the 23rd and leaving Christmas day.

I will also be in Munich over Christmas.Does anyone have any ideas for things to that day besides going to church or visiting Dachau. There doesn't appear to be much open on the 25th or 26th.
Are the beer halls open?

Arriving on Dec 23 means you'll have one evening and one morning till the Christmas markets close. That's why I asked. The wonderful German "Christmas" season is Advent, i. e. the four weeks BEFORE Christmas, not the holidays. As I keep telling people, spending the Christmas holidays in Germany is not the wisest idea. Christmas is a quiet family hoiday here. There won't be much to do for travellers except going to church.

It's basically a layover. We will be flying to the States on the 25th.

Apparently, AisleSeat doesn't agree with you. As long as decent restaurants are open on the 24th, all is good.

Huh? I've seen 40 Christmasses in this country. I am astonished how many people believe that Christmas markets take place during the Christmas holidays.
Finding a decent restaurant that's open on Christmas Eve won't be easy. Germans don't go out for dinner that day, and even restaurant keepers want to celebrate with their families. Try the restaurants of the big chain hotels. All these will require reservations in advance, though. The Turkish Döner stalls may be open, too. Some pubs will reopen later in the evening.
