Munich for 3 Days
 

Hey everyone! I'll be headed to Munich for a three day weekend those first couple days in April and would like to visit Neuschwanstein Castle, Dachau and the Hofbrauhaus for sure. I was curious (regarding logistics mainly) if it was wise to reserve tickets for any of these places in advance or if it was alright just showing up the morning of? My hostel is located rather centrally in Munich so I figure I can just take the metro to the train station and easily get to any of these sites. Does the Hofbrauhaus require a reservation for a tour? Does anyone recommend any other sites worth visiting? Thanks for your help!

We just took the train to Dachau and it was really easy. We didn't do a tour though. For the castle, we did a full-day bus tour of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof castles - just bought tickets on the bus that day. (Be aware that they sell tickets next door to the main train station, but the bus actually picks you up across the street. The tour office doesn't open until after the tour departs so you should pick up tickets the day before.)

We didn't do a tour at Hofbrauhaus, but we went there on each trip for a few drinks just to soak in the atmosphere.

I love the Residenz, but it gets mixed reviews here. Marienplatz is lovely - you'll probably walk through it to get to the Hofbrauhaus. Have fun - Munich is one of my favourite cities!

Sounds like a fun weekend. Neuschwanstein is about two hours away from Munich. You can take a train and bus or take a tour with a company like Panaroma.

Hofbrau Haus won't require a tour. Just sit down at a table and order a beer and enjoy the music. There is a folk dancing and music show at 7pm on the third floor.

Ask which S-bahn to take to get to Dachau. After you get to the train station in Dachau you go outside to a small bus terminal. Ask which bus to take to the concentration camp. Once you get there it is a free self-guided tour. Be sure to go to the far end of the area to see the crematory ovens.

I like the Residenz, also, especially the Ludwig carriage collection.

You could possibly do Nymphenburg Palace in Munich...

I won't try to dissuade you from Neuschwanstein although I honestly think you'd enjoy Herrenchiemsee more, especially the inside, but realize that the outside of Neuschwanstein is hard to resist.
