Munich for 1 night , Help please!
 

Hi, a friend and I are taking a train from amsterdam to munich. I will be in town for 1 night in early September. I leave for Zurich the next day. I was planning to stay at the Le Meridien. My question is what is there to do? Any suggestions for museums ,sights,restaurants, bars ... Thanks in advance for any help...

You can look at Fodor's above for a good list but since you will be at Le Meridien you will be very close to the Fussganger zone which starts at Karls Platz (KarlsTor).

The main landmark for Munich is a few blocks down the fussganger zone the Neues Rathaus with the Glockenspeil at Marienplatz. For a great Bavarian meal stop in at the Augustiner (along the fussganger zone) and visit the Hofbrau Haus a few blocks from the Rathaus.

Other fun/interesting things include the Viktualenmart which is close by, the Residenze the old and new art gallaries, Nymphenburg Palace, Dachau, the Deutsches Museum (science and industry museum), the BMW musuem and more.

Stayed at the Le Meridien which we really liked. Because the train-subway station is a walk across the street it is so easy to go anywhere you might want to go. We visited Nympenberg Palace which we enjoyed. Also out to Dachau which is a sobering experience,but interesting. Had a fun afternoon at the zoo which is a lovely walk among the animals. The Rat Skeller restaurant around the Marienplatz was our first meal. Right around the corner from the hotel is a bus you can get on and get a guided view of the city right in front of Herties Dept. Store. The store has a good cafeteria with many types of food.
We really enjoyed our stay. people in the Le Meridien were very helpful helping us with what transpo to catch for places we wanted to go.

I ditto both AisleSeat and maryanne. Stayed at Le Meriden last month and was within walking distance of many things. St. Michael's church (sorry, can't remember German name), Frauenkirche, decent shopping, Hard Rock Cafe. Bought breakfast at a nearby Muller's bakery as breakfast was 20 € each at Le Meridien (although plentiful and delicious) and I'm mostly a tea and fruit girl and didn't do it justice.

Be sure to reserve your train seats early at Amsterdam Centraal! We had to catch the next train to Koln as they were fully booked 2 hours ahead.

Hey jon - forgot to add this - are you a "Moments" member for Le Meridien? I had just joined and Munich was my first stay but they upgraded us anyway to quite a large room. Might be worth your while....
