Munich Christmas Markets
Hello,
I am travelling to Munich for four days in December mainly to experience the Christmas Markets. I would like to travel (train) to another area (hopefully within 60-90 minutes) to explore a quaint German village for a day trip. Looking for suggestions....thank you, Mike |

Sounds great, I hope you find it. |
I am not sure how long the train ride is, but I have heard Regensburg has great Christmas markets and is a lovely place to stay.

Like creche scenes and other carved wooden items?..the ones NOT made in China? Try Oberammergau

We loved our daytrip to the Christmas Market in Garmisch. You can go to Mittenwald and then return through Garmisch - 2 hours to Mittenwald. Picture postcard places, especially at Christmas.

Since you are going for the Christmas Markets you should daytrip to Nuremburg. It is an easy daytrip and you can use the Bayern ticket (27 euros for up to 5 people). Nuremburg has one of the oldest and one of the biggest markets. Another of our favorite daytrips is to Salzburg. (also availabe on the Bayern ticket. It has a small Christmas market but is a charming town that is famous for Mozart, the Sound of Music and the fortress on the hill above the town.

Also consiider a daytrip to Fussen to see Neuschwanstein if you haven't already done that.

I seecond going to Nuremburg but not if it is on a weekend. Also, don't miss the creche market in Munich. It is just around the corner from the main market. Have a great trip. CJ
