Munich Airport to City Center

Yes, I know that there is the train and the Lufthansa Bus at the Munich Airport. My question has to do with a reputable fix price car/driver to get us to our hotel in the city center of Munich. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your time.

Are you absolutely against using a taxi?

sparkchaser Mar 17th, 2014 11:49 PM

If you want to throw around money like a fool, these guys have a nice selection of vehicles: http://www.bavaria-limousines.de/

I disagree with Sparkcahser that hiring a private auto to transport you from the Munich airport to downtown is either "foolish" or "foolish."

I do wonder if it wouldn't simply be just as easy to take a taxi into the city. There will be plenty of them waiting outside of Arrivals and it might even be faster than a private hire. The road between the airport and the center of the city is a fast one; the train that you have "heard of" is almost as easy but not as fast.

Have you Googled this subject? if you do you'll find more than a few options. Yes, sometimes it is nice to have a car service after a long flight.

The Mercedes taxis are pretty nice and comfortable.

Johnangiulo Mar 18th, 2014 02:27 PM

Not against taxis. Any idea of the fare?
Don't like throwing my money around but, as they say, "If Mama is happy then everyone is happy!"

Thanks to all for your replies.

sparkchaser Mar 18th, 2014 11:11 PM

The fare largely depends on traffic but 50-70€, probably closer to 70€.

Cowboy1968 Mar 19th, 2014 12:23 AM

Airport to central Munich is €55-60 except during rush hours.
Taking any vehicle (taxi, limo , bus) into town between 7-9.30am and 4.30-7pm won't be a speedy transport. The "fast road" into Munich will be more a parking lot once you hit the city limits.
If your final destination is not near a transport stop, it will still be faster during rush hours to take the train downtown and a cab for the last mile.

<i>"If Mama is happy then everyone is happy!"</i>

I understand completely. Good luck. :)

i would say a taxi is 70 to 75 euros.

PalenQ Mar 19th, 2014 08:16 AM

Consider taking either of two S-Bahn lines to Munich's main station then going by taxi to your hotel - may save a lot of money and with luggage carts and all free a snap.

Q - how much does one have to (if they do) tip the driver on such services?

Cowboy1968 Mar 19th, 2014 02:13 PM

I take the taxi between central Munich and the airport from time to time and when traffic is moving you should not pay more than 60, maybe 65, to any hotel in the historic city center or Central station area.
During rush hours it is a total waste of time and money.

A typical tip for a taxi driver would be rounding up. A euro or two.

The good thing about the train, is there is little traffic. Taxis sit in city traffic just like everyone else.

There are numerous limo services (most of them catering for tourists from Russia). However, they are not really cheaper than taxis and you may encounter problems (e.g. if the limo has been stuck in a traffic jam or if your flight is delayed).

Taking a taxi is the easiest way to travel into the city, albeit more expensive than the S-Bahn. Just walk out of the terminal to the taxi stand.

Walking to the S-Bahn station in the airport is a bit longer, you have to wait for the next train, from the downtown train station you have to walk to the taxi stand etc.

If you can afford the extra money, take a taxi. If you are on a budget, take the S-Bahn. Limo service is not really an alternative.

I understand wanting to get a taxi - especially if you haven't packed light and are coming off an overseas flight.

Party of 6 from airport to city center. How many can ride in a cab? Limo? What is train fare?

sparkchaser Mar 23rd, 2014 09:13 AM

The vans can easily carry six but it also depends on how much luggage you have.

Train fare is significantly less than taxi/limo fare and is 8.80 Euro per person. Note that a Bayern ticket would be cheaper for a party of six.

Check this guys out http://www.hpmlimos.de/en/price-inquiry/
I only know the price for airport transfer by a Mercedes E Class (or a sedan as some of the people call it), because I've use it couple a weeks ago. It was 87 eur...

Agree w/sparkchaser. I returned last month & did the train both ways which was quite comfortable. Much rather spend the money on something else.

Dukey1 Jul 6th, 2014 02:11 AM

I'm sitting in a Munich hotel as I write this. I wonder if you made it into town and if "Momma" allowed you to travel in the car or as luggage?
