There is no easy way to get from Granada to Barcelona. Flying is your best bet, but all flights seem to go through Madrid. I faced similar problems with my plans which is why I visited Madrid twice on my trip (see above). Also try and work in Cordoba (40 mins from Seville on the AVE train)even if only to see the Mezquita - really amazing. Go to Iberia.com for flight info and renfe.es for train info.

ladybug - I am flying directly from Granada to Barcelona, and many others on this forum have done it or are planning to, so I don't know why you say you have to go through Madrid. You do not.

madanthony - sounds like a great trip, and similar to the one I am taking next month (I am leaving 3 weeks from today!). I have 14 full days in the country, so I am spending 3 nights in Sevilla and 2 in Ronda to see the Pueblos Blancos, but other than that, I am doing almost your exact trip.

Watch for my trip report toward the end of February!

ALso, I have Maribel's Barcelona file, but not your email address. If you put it here, I'll email it to you.

Fodorites rock!!! Thank you all so much for the great advice and thank you to those (including Maribel herself) who answered my pleas for Maribel's brilliant files. I've tailored our trip to include so many of these great suggestions and undoubtedly will have a better experience as a result. I sincerely appreciate the advice and tips. Melissa

I am a newbie to this site, and I am thrilled with the invaluable info found here. We have 10 days in Spain on the horizon and I would love to have the aforementioned, obviously invaluable files compiled by Maribel re: Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and surrounds if someone would email them to [email protected]. Can't thank you enough.

Dear madanthony,

Looks like a great trip. Personally, we dont' like going anywhere less than 3-4 nights but that's our style.

One note, if I may, I don't have the vast experience some of these other posters so re: Spain but in my experience there turning in early (before midnight in Madrid and BCN especially) would cut out a major portion of the culture of Spain. I've talked to alot of people who hated the food, etc. only to find out they tried to eat dinner at 6pm each night.

While in Madrid two Christmas's ago (with a 7 year old) we never went out to eat before 10pm and strolled the streets with hundred of others until 1am. We would go, go, go all day (many sites don't even open until 10am), have a drink and maybe tapas around 5:30 and then take a siesta until 8:30 and then a late night out.

Just our suggestion, no matter what, you'll love Spain. We'll be there in late May with 4 nights in Denia and then 4 in Barcelona.

via con dios,

Brian
