Multiple airlines (AA -> Iberia) at same airport

Sorry if that title doesn't make sense, but in looking to travel to Spain, I see that we would switch airlines at Chicago...from American (arriving from Boston) to Iberia (departing to Madrid)...I've never done this before, is there much time involved? And also, any experience on how reliable Iberia is with this? I see these horror stories but I'm not sure what to make of them.
Thanks much again!

Check what terminals you fly in and out of in Chicago. I had to recently transfer NWA-KLM in different O'Hare terminals and also United-NWA. Both times were nightmares-- delayed flights, taking the tram in between terminals and then going through long security lines again. It was not good. I hope you have a better experience.

This is very common -- American uses partner airlines for many international destinations. At ORD, this would entail changing terminals (3 to 1?) so give yourself enough time.

I'd check seatguru.com to see how comfortable you'll be on Iberia for a 8 hr flight. Their service isn't great but if it's much cheaper, I'd consider it. I don't mind Iberia for a short flight but for a TATL I'd check around for alternatives.

Can I ask why you'd top a post that has two responses within 5 minutes?
