Mt. St. Michael Look Alike
Isn't there another, less touristy, island church just north of Mt. St. Michael? Anyone ever been there?
Thanks, Tinnie |
Where's Mt. St. Michael?
I thought maybe you meant Mt. St. Michel, but north of there would be in the sea. |
Well - you could go to St Michael's Mount - but then you'd have to be in Cornwall . . . . .
|
I believe that that is the one she is thinking of. I was there many years ago and yes, its very small version of MSM.

Mont St. Michel is in France (off the coast of Brittany) and Mount St. Michaels is in Cornwall (in England). Which one were you referring to?
|
Once you've seen "the" Mont St Michel you will never settle for an imitation. Touristy.......for sure but then that's just another term for a very worthwhile venue.

Now I'm guessing that tinniefish was referring to Mount St. Michael's in Cornwall as being the "less touristy" version of Mont St. Michel in France. And yes, it is north, across the Channel.
|
Yes it is less touristy but nort as grand.

Mont St Michel and St Michael's Mount are actulally closely related. The Cornish priory was once a daughter house of the Normandy abbey, built by Abbot Bernard of Mont St Michel in 1135. The tie was broken in 1424, when King Henry V seized the priory.

Just being nitpicky, but I think Mont St. Michel is off the coast of Normandy (tho that area has been part of Brittany in the past). :)
