Mt Blanc Alps & Chillon Castle Viewed From Montreux
 

I want to take a photo of Chillon Castle with the alps of Mt Blanc at its background. I wouldn't want Chillon Castle looking too small so I guess I have to be standing at a vantage point nearest Chillon (and facing the Mont Blanc alps), but not too near so that the PEAK of Mont Blanc is also included as a background behind Chillon.

Where exactly is the best vantage point to take such a photo?

Please tell me what the street name is (or even building opposite from where I should stand to take this photo). Thanks.

I don't think Mont-Blanc can be seen behind the Chillon Castle nor anywhere if you are in Montreux area. A typical picture shows Le Dent-du-Midi (the tooth of the noon) behind the castle.

The previous answer is absolutely correct. You can't see Mont Blanc from anywhere around Montreux or the castle. You can see some mountains, depending on what direction you are looking. Best views are normally to the east, but lots of pictures show the castle looking west. Good luck.

I agree with the previous posters.

But if I recall correctly you can see Mt. Blanc from Rochers-de-Naye, a mountain above Montreux accessible by cog-wheel train, depending on the weather of course!

Ingo you are right, you can see the Mont Blanc from the Rochers de Naye but you cannot see both. The castle si too small and on the lakeside far far down.

Hike, you said "a typical picture shows Le Dent-du-Midi". Is the Le Dent-du-Midi one of the snowcapped peaks (in a typical/tourguide picture) at the back of Chillon if your standing at Montreux then?

And aside from Rocher-de-Naye, where else can I get a photo of Chillon with Mont Blanc as its background?

Nathan, as Gaia said too you can not see Mont Blanc and the Chillon Castle together (from anywhere including Rochers de Naye).

The location of those shots is going to become pretty obvious when you set foot in Montreux! They are taken from the lakeside promenade.

The flowered lakeside promenade runs for almost 11km, linking the towns of Clarens, Montreux, Territet, Veytaux, and Villeneuve. The Chillon castle is set between Territet/Veytaux and Villeneuve. You can see Chillon from almost everywhere on the promenade except in a few spots where a spit of headland cuts off the view. Best, of course, are from Territet onward.

In fact you can't see Chillon from most of the promenade; you can only see it after you pass the Casino/Forum area at the center of town. My mistake!

My error and the views are clear at the photo at the portal page www.montreux.ch. That big headland in the foreground is the center of town where the Casino & Forum sit. Chillon is far to the right.

Is there a promenade at the right edge (of that big headland in the foreground) from which I could take the photo, or would there be a different headland just next to the castle from which I could take the same photo?

Negative. The headland in the foreground of www.montreux.ch is the farthest point on the promenade from which you can still see the castle. The promenade is 11 km long; as you pass the headland and continue walking toward Chillon on the promenade, the castle will get closer and the photos will get better.
