Movies in Lake Como

Aside from Star Wars and A Month by the Lake, are there any other movies that were filmed in the lake como area?

The Luzhin Defence ,Romeo and Juliet, and A Month By The Lake were also filmed in Lake Como

No Fodorite probably knows this, but Piccolo Mondo Antico, a classic 1938 movie with Alida Valli (who was 17 at the time), was filmed on Lake Como. Does any Fodorite know who is Alida Valli?

Zeffirelli's R&J? Really? What scenes? Where (in the Como area)?

Fascinating. Would love to know more.

Best wishes,

Rex

The very beginning of the film "Julia & Julia" was filmed by Lake Como, on what is the wedding day of Kathleen Turner's character. The scenes then shift to Trieste, where she resides.

Alida Valli also played Signora Fascioli in "A Month by the Lake" 50+ years later.

Hi. What is The Luzhin Defence? I could sure use a suggestion for a good movie rental. J.

The new James Bond: Casino Royale will be filming at Villa del Balbianello, Lake Como, at the end of May 2006...in case anyone would like to know.

Alida Valli played Anna Schmidt in The Third Man, among other things.

She recently passed away.

I think one of the final scenes of Ocean's Twelve was filmed there.

The movie kind of sucks, but since my friend's niece designed and created the little gold carriage inside the mock-Faberge egg (I am so proud of her, so have to boast) I had to sit through it.

The Luzhin Defence stars John Turturro (sp?) and Emily Watson. Not a bad film, but a very languid one dealing with the lead character's mental illness. Oh yeah, and chess.

I just read that the church scenes from Romeo and Juliet were in Tuscania; the duel scenes were in Gubbio, and the balcony scene might have been filmed in Pienza—not sure. The IMDb movie site lists several other places as well.

I haven't watched this movie in years, but I think I will before going to Italia.

Wow. I might just have to make a pilgrimage to Tuscania or gubbio or both, as I think that Zeffirelli's R&J probably stays with me as the most moving movie I ever saw (part of it was seeing it at age 15).

I thought maybe that you had spelled "Tuscania" incorrectly - - but indeed, it is a fantastic looking little town (and not in Tuscany!) - - see http://www.tuscania-italy.com/tuscania for more info (all in Italian) and pictures.

Molto grazie...

Prego, Rex. I love that movie, too.

Tuscania does look interesting, doesn't it. Here's another link in English:
