Movie video store in Venice?
I'm learning Italian and am looking for Italian movies with Italian subtitltes.
I could find a few here - but most Italian movies in NA have only English subtiltes, for obvious reasons. Will be going to Venice this May - does anyone know where are the movie stores where I can purchase movie CDs? Thanks |
I'd imagine that would be difficult to find: First, you'd need to find movies with same-language subtitles on a track (presumably for hearing-impaired viewers), and then you'd have to make sure that the DVD cam be played both in Europe (where you buy it) and in North America.
As an alternative, you might want to consider opera CDs (music CDs, not video DVDs). Most full recordings include a libretto, which have the original language and the English translation. I've learned a huge amount of Italian this way. (OK, not all of it is terribly useful. I'm still looking for a chance to casually say in Italian, "A beautiful day will come when a wisp of smoke will rise from the far end of the sea, /Then the ship appears, and then the white ship enters the port with its thunderous salute.") |

Not sure where you live, but Virgin Records in San Francisco and also NYC have an extensive collection of Italian movies and television available on VHS as well as DVDs

If you go down to the Arsenale area, there is a music/video store on Via Giuseppe Garibaldi that had DVD's in the window. It might be worth a look if you are in the area.

Thanks Tom.
As a matter of fact, I will be staying in a B&B close to the Arsenale vaporetto stop! |
