Layover in Vienna

I'll have more than 15 hours layover in Vienna's airport from 8:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m... I'd like to explore what I can from the city..any advice. Thanks

The ride into the city will take about 20 min. So, you do a nightly walk through the old town and have something to drink and eat in one of the beisls (the equivalent of British pubs).

Then spend the the night in a hotel room. The next day, you may visit some of the fantastic museums, go to the fleamarket at the Wienzeile, and spend the afternoon in a café before you ride back to the airport.

My favourite museums are

- the Hofburg (Imperial Residence),
- the Fine Arts Museum,
- the Musikhaus.

But there are many more, according to everybody's taste.

You can ride to Schönbrunn Palace, but that will eat up most of the morning, so better stay in the city (which is quite compact).

traveller, if I have understood the OP correctly, s/he has to be back at the airport at 7am, so sadly no time for the museums of Vienna.

given you have so little time, rather than just wander aimlessly around the streets, one idea might be to go to the Prater [a large park just the other side of the river from the old part of the city] and ride the ferris wheel to get a great view, then have supper in a Biergarten. or catch a tram that goes round the Ringstrasse - the road that encircles the centre, before getting off and finding a Beisl.

sadly the tram that goes all the way round in one go will have finished by the time you get there, but here's a website that might be interesting, anyway:

8:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m is 11 hrs. Where did 4+ hrs go to make it a more than a 15 hr layover?
