Mount Vesuvius

Hi all,

Since I am planning to see things which is a whole new experience. I was wondering if visiting Mount Vesuvius worth it? If yes, is it easily accessible with a kid (2 year)?

I was also wondering since our arrival city would be rome, is it possible to go on a trip from rome directly and then return back later during the evening?

Thanks and regards,

Hi

I wasn't that impressed with it. I'd certainly question going all the way from Rome to see it. I would rather check out the many sights in Rome.

I certainly wouldn't try it with a two-year old. Tour buses can get you to within 200 meters of the summit, but you have to climb the rest of the way, on a trail that's gravel and rocks.

yeah climbing is really my concern. so it isn't safe over there to climb? another question remain is this place really worth visiting? i mean watching a volcano!

I found below link very useful.

According to Lonely Planet the path is 860 meters from the parking lot:

We were there in 2009. It is not a difficult path nor dangerous. Nice views of the Bay. But personally I would not make a day trip from Rome to see it.

Agree that it's not worth a trip from Rome, especially with a two year old. It is a fun climb if you're in the area.

You wouldn't see a volcano erupting. There is some steam that comes out of the crater, but that's all.
