Moulin Rouge... is it worth the time & money?

When I have visited all of the interesting sites to see I may go, but not until much later in life. I am only 68 so still have many worth while places to visit. However, if it is really, really something you must do, go for it.

Maybe someone who knows more could say, but I would be leery of doing that on Christmas due to transportation issues. It's a holiday, so metro schedules will be pared down to begin with. Trains stop entirely around 12:30-1 am. Who knows if they'd be cut back more from that stop on the holiday so they wouldn't even be running when you got out. Taxis may be scarce because of the holiday, also.
I just might be a little concerned about those things and figure them out ahead of time. Otherwise, one of those tours that takes care of transportation might be a better idea, even if not necessary.

The crowd moves out and in fairly well so that was fine. We were still in the cancan mood so we danced around a bit until we had to board our buses for the hotels. We got to our hotel at about 2:30AM and four of us had to awaken the night man to unlock the doors. Fun evening.

yeah i dont know the tariff, it doesnt appear on the page. just says "unbeatable" apparently.

We did the tour similar to what SeaUrchin did, only it was through Cityrama. Their office is also on Rue du Rivoli. It was nice to have them drop us back to the hotel at 2AM. We went on our first night in Paris, too.

Am I crazy or have nearly all the threads about this in the past been pretty unanimous in "don't waste your time" and "simply awful" type responses? I'm amazed that there are so many positive comments about the Moulin Rouge this time around.

I then found a christmas day eiffel tower altitude 95 restaurant on the first floor, followed by mouline rouge show, transport included.
(Dinner and show 150 Euro p/p.)

I haven't and there are mixed reviews on the food there. But I've never heard anyone say it was terrible, and hey, it's the Eiffel Tower. Isn't that the point? I'm willing to bet the dinner there is FAR better than it would be at Moulin Rouge, so I say go for it. Will you ever forget the Christmas you had dinner ON the Eiffel Tower?

The menu is fixed, subject to change without notice, Kir, salmon pastry, chicken thing, chocolate dessert, includes champagne in the moulin rouge etc.
I think my concern would be spending christmas on a slightly tacky sounding "all in one", even if it did cover two great paris attractions.

Considering how difficult getting around on your own might be on Christmas Day, I think I'd swallow a little "false pride" about doing something "tacky sounding" and go for what is easy and has less pressure. I'm not a fan of doing "package tours" but there are times when they make a whole lot of sense. I think this may be one of those times. Frankly there is often something sort of tacky about Christmas dinners in many restaurants anyway, as they tend to cut corners to get more people in and out with as little effort as possible for their own staff.

We went for a steam cruise with Creole lunch on the Mississippi in New Orleans... my expectation of it far surpassed the actual outcome, although it sounds really good, it's never a story I bring up to friends, because it wasn't that good.

I actually did take the Citirama tour that included Altitiude 95 and the Moulin Rouge. Citirama has an office in NYC and I picked up my tickets before we left. It was in May of 2002. The tour bus makes stops at some of the hotels or you can catch the bus at their office.
Dinner at Altitude 95 was fine--not great but worth what we spent. It included either a glass of wine or a Kir, a choice of soup or salad and a main course, plus dessert and coffee. This restaurant is not in league with Jules Verne ( went there my second trip to Paris). You sit with the group from the bus. You can go up to the observation deck at the top platform for a look out.
The bus then takes you to the Moulin Rouge where you wait in line to enter. If you have a camera they will insist that you check it. However,its very quick to get it back after the show.
You receive a small bottle of champagne after you are seated. we had no opportunity to pick our own seats. Exactly like Vegas ( except for the usher putting his hand out).
If you have ever seen a Las Vegas show you will know what to expect. Everything is in French of course, but it doesn't matter a bit because in a riskee sort of way, it is very entertaining.
After the show, the bus driver dropped each person at their hotel door.
