Moulin Rouge & Lido?
 

Hi all -

I know that both Moulin Rouge & the Lido are considered vastly overrated and overly expensive by many. However, I have some clients who are seriously interested in going to one of both. They enjoy Vegas shows, and have asked me for advice in determining whether or not to go to either show.



I've not been myself, preferring to spend my $ in Paris on good food instead. But I know these shows are still popular with many Paris tourists.



I've always received good advice from message boards in the past, and will appreciate your candor and honesty. Also, any advice on how to snag good seats "upfront" so they'll not be stuck waaaay in back and need binoculars?

I like the Moulin Rouge partially for the history. The girls in all of the revues are lovely but the history isn't the same.

I took the supper show and the food was very good, the wine was good and overall it was cheaper. I would have had a meal somewhere before or after, so why not put this together. The seating was great.

Don't forget you might have to look at the Follies Bregier (spelling?) which might even older than the Moulin Rouge.

I went three times to the Crazy Horse and I don't find them as good as the others. Girls yes, the show wasn't as nice though.

A small snippet about the Moulin Rouge. If you visit the Muse D'Orsay and see the paintings from Toulouse Latreuc (spelling again). You'll give you an idea about this place.

In the Lido, you have one of their girls who is riding in the Tour de France (for women). I can't remember her name but she does have nice legs.

If I can summarize what I have seen on Fodor's, and that I agree with, here is a plan: eat dinner at a nice restaurant (because the food is not that great at these clubs and expensive), then go to the late show at one of the clubs.

While I haven't been to the Lido (and most likely never will) I did attend a dinner/show at the Moulin Rouge as my traveling companion and family member wanted to see the show. No, the dinner is not memorable, yes, the prices are really expensive, but the show itself was surprisingly good.

I also liked the Moulin Rouge, thought it was alot of fun. We went to a late show without dinner and just a drink minimum. I think it was about 100 or little more a person like 3 years ago.

The Moulin Rouge show is well-designed, has excellent costuming and lighting, etc. I have not had the meal.

Tell your clients that this establishment ENFORCES their stated dress code. Those tourists that were ahead of us last year who were dressed in shorts, etc. did NOT get in even though they had paid for tickets.

I have the chance to go to the Moulin rouge as part of an upcoming travel tour. However the tickets available for us, including dinner and 1/2 bottle wine, are 130 euro each. I am really not sure that it would be worth it for me. But then, it IS one of those once-in-a-lifetime things. But if I do every once-in-a-lifetime thing on my 3 week tour I will end up very poor!

I think you could afford to miss the dinner. I would book it directly, without the dinner. It would be a lot cheaper than the tour company might be charging you, too.
