Motion Sickness Remedies

When I travel, I always have to take something for motion sickness. Over the years I have been taking Transderm Scope and it is pretty powerful--almost too much so. What works for you?

My wife and I cut a patch in 2 and put it behind our ears, then cover it with paper tape. It works, and we have never had a problem with side effects.

I usually just use Dramamine. I always use the original formula, as the "non drowsy" formula makes me feel kind of lightheaded. It has always worked for me.

My mother-in-law just tried the wrist bands and liked them.

Scopolamine comes in pill form.
The patches are for 3 days, the pill lasts about a day, so it's much less medicine hitting your system all at once. It fully does the job for me, doesn't have that "whammo" effect and only makes my mouth go dry and my eyes dilate for about 20 minutes, unlike the patch.
Ask your doctor about it.

A glass of champagne works wonders!
Ginger is supposed to really help though.

When the seas kick up beyond my liking, I slip on an electronic pulse wristband that I swear by. The LW finds the wristband useless and wears the Transderm patch, on those rare occasions when she needs it. However, neither of us have used these on airplanes, just in our fishing boat.

I want to add my vote for cutting the patch in half. (I've never covered it with paper tape, though!) I used to be seasick all the time, but the patch has eliminated that problem. I have gotten so good that I only have to wear it for the first couple of days of the cruise, just until I get used to the motion.
There was a period a few years back when the patch was unavailable, though. That's when I turned to Dramamine -- the original formula. The trick is to take it before you leave the house to go to the airport and then again about 6 hours later. You have to "prevent" seasickness, because once you have it, it's all over!

When in Italy, I stock up on Xamamina tablets, or caplets, really. They also make a gum, but it doesn't work as well for me. Xamamina may very well have exactly the same formula as stuff available in the US, but it just seems so much better to me. No motion sickness and no drowsiness.
