Motion sickness on a river cruise?
No one in the cruise forum seems to have anything to see about this issue--can you get riversick?
|
Not on a river but maybe when you hit a lake you might feel a little. I have been on a few river cruises.
|
Specifically, on the Danube in December.
|
I was on the Danube river cruise, it wasn't in December but the boats are designed to minimize any movement at all, they are state of the art. Be sure you get booked on a very new one though. The locks are fascinating and when going through them you might get a bump or two but not a rocking motion.
I was with a person who gets seasick watching the toilet flush and he didn't feel motion sickness at all, so don't worry and have a wonderful time. |
HA! I can get sick anywhere! Not sure about river cruises, but on the lakes I feel much, much better then on the sea.
If you or somebody with you may have a problem - make sure you have appropriate medicine and start with a shorter cruise. If you can wait for a year or 2 till I try a river cruise :) |
I was on the Danube and Main in late November and didn't notice much motion at all except when docking/undocking. Nor did I notice anyone else who appeared to be or mentioned being motion sick. I don't think it's really a problem.

FWIW, I am sick on planes, whale watches, the boat to the Aran Islands, and buses. I can do cruises on our local Hudson River, though, so rivers must be calmer without the waves and rolls. Good luck!

Thanks very much for all the helpful input--I'll go prepared but hope not to need any remedies.

I don't know a thing about river cruises but thought I'd share what I use for motion sickness.
I've purchased elastic bands that are placed on the pressure points at the wrist. I don't remember the exact price but $10-15 sounds familiar at the pharmacy. I've had excellent luck with them without dealing with the sleepiness that comes with certain medications. You can always tell everyone you just are sooo athletic you can't leave your gear behind! ;) |
