Motels in Oradea
Could anybody recommend an inexpensive but decent motel in Oradea?
|
Can you give us an idea where is Oradea? ((*))
|
Oradea is a major city in western Romania...there are also a handful fair priced hotels therein also. However, I only stayed in Oradea once back in pre-revolution days, with a family I was interviewing. It is a well situated, good looking city on a riverside, just over the Hungrian border.

Whimper-whimper... Oradea is also known as Nagyvárad, I understand. (The Hungarian name.) I'm getting in on the 11th from Budapest, and was hoping for a peaceful night's sleep before traveling on. Thanks, anyway! :)

Most cities and towns in Transylvania and other parts of the former Austro-Hungarian empire had Hungarian names..the largest one, Timoshoara was Temesvar, Satu-Mare was Szatmarnemesht, and so on. It even serves as a rather humorous episode in one of my books on the region. If you're researching your family roots, I'd be happy to point you in an effective direction. with an organization called The Jewish Genealoigical Association, Special Interest Group on Romania...matters not whether your Jewish, their services are readily available to anyone. Thanks for the pointer, Stu t., but my roots are mainly dead. My 90 days' stay limit is about up in Hungary, and immigration people told me to get my body over to a non-Schengen country to be stamped out and in again. I suppose, people travel for all kinds of reasons. :D

Are you driving or taking the train?
|
I'm taking the train. Gas is way to expensive in Europe.

You will find a few hostels/motels here. I do not know how far away from the train station they would be, but send them an e-mail, maybe they could even pick you up. |
