Most Romantic Dinner - Italy

Need some help in planning a romantic dinner; please tell me where in Italy you had your most romantic dinner and why? Thanks!! I will be going to Rome, Florence, Venice and Sorrento and need some ideas

Haven't sctually eaten there but had drinks in the courtyard of the Hotel de Russie near the Spanish Steps in Rome a year or so ago. The courtyard backs up into the verdant hill the other side of the Borghese palace. Diners are scattered in the hillside with a string quartet playing nearby. I'm certain its expensive, but definately romantic. Try their website.

Hi W,

Take the ferry to Amalfi and a cab to Ravello and have dinner at Palazzo Sasso. Cab back to Amalfi and SITA bus along the Coast Road to Sorrento.

OR stay overnight.

PS, bring lots of money.

The Terrace Restaurant at Hotel Cipriani in Venice. Everything is superb...from the sleek private boat that takes you across the lagoon to Guidecca, to the wonderfully manicured grounds of the hotel, to the impeccable service, to the scrumptious menu, to the magical view.

Truly a memorable experience that can be topped off by a walk around the beautiful pool and an after dinner limoncello in the piano bar.

We climbed up the hill from Amalfi to Ravello in the evening as a late September thunderstorm hit full force. I've never seen lightning like that.

We got off the bus and hopped between the raindrops and thunderbolts through Ravello and eventually found our room at the Parsifal. They had an elegant dinner waiting for us in the modest (but dry) restaurant, with the coastal lights of Amalfi at our feet, lit by lightning bolts.

Unforgettable.

IL RITROVO - the best and most romantic restaurant in all of Italy.

Tell 'em about it, ira.

witchy Aug 15th, 2005 06:38 AM

Statia,
it looks beauiful, but do the guys have to wear a jacket and tie?

Beenderduntat2,
Where is the restaurant located?

Statia Aug 15th, 2005 06:51 AM

witchy, most male patrons were wearing at least a sports coat, but not everyone had a tie on. Women were in skirts, dresses, or nice slacks.

Via dei Pucci in Florence. Just a few blocks north of the Duomo.

It's in a hard-to-find basement and once you're down at the basement you ring a door bell and a lady will let you in through a corrugated iron gate/door.

DRJ,
THanks for the recommendation it looks beautiful, you were right it's outrageously expensive, it's 650,00 Euros which equates to a little over $800.

Hi witchy,

Il Ritrovo is a very nice restaurant, and had I thought it fit your request for "most romantic dinner" I would have mentioned it.

The troll is pulling your leg.

What's your budget?

THanks IRA - I would spend at most $150USD. THanks!!!

To me it would be the San Michele Restaurant at the Villa San Michelle in Fiesole --hands down. Truly one of the most incredible dinners I've ever had. The experience was sureal and I'm sure we'll never be able to afford to stay there again! Go to www.orientexpresshotels.com The restaurant is way up on a hill and overlooks Florence. Simply breathtaking!

In Tuscany, running a close second, Boccon di Vino in Montalcino. This is another fabulous restaurant with a glorious view of the Val d'Orcia. Enjoy the sunset along with a bottle of Brunello in one of the most beautiful areas of Tuscany. We had dinner here our first night and loved it so much we drove from Arezzo (about 2 hours away) to have dinner here on our last night in Tuscany.

All the best and good luck to you!

Great question Witchy... mine would have been on Lake Garda - no help to you:)

I just have to say that I am CRUSHED as I thought I was going to the Cip's Terrace restaurant, but had never thought about a jacket - no way I'll get hubby or other male traveler to pack one :(

Il Ritrovo doesn't require one does it? Though not the most romantic, is on our list for October.

travelphile Aug 15th, 2005 04:18 PM

Hijacking the thread about The Terrace again...

I found a loophole! Website says Jacket for dinner... looks like I"ll be having a Venetian lunch there :-d

Statia Aug 16th, 2005 06:16 AM

Another tip.

Aside from Cipriani's Terrace Restaurant, there is also Cip's Club, which is more casual. Might be worth looking into for those of you who prefer to dine sans jacket. :)

ira Aug 16th, 2005 06:32 AM

Hi Witchy,

>I would spend at most $150USD.<

That's about 125E for two.

Contact the Villa Aurora in Fiesole.
http://www.villaurora.net

For that price Il Ritrovo might be a good idea. It's not "romantic", but it is a very pleasant room, very good food and excellent service.

Hey ira,

You are the troll around here.

First, I make a suggestion to the OP. Then you accuse me of being a troll and dis-credit my suggestion.
Now you steal my suggestion.

Yes, you are definitely a shameless troll.

ira Aug 16th, 2005 06:55 AM

Hi bee,

I apologize for calling you a troll.

ira Aug 16th, 2005 06:59 AM

>Il Ritrovo doesn't require [a jacket]one does it?
