Hello,

Honestly, I think much of it depends on what you are there for, who you are there with (or not) or who you meet or don't. Or what stage of your life you are at etc etc. Personally, I have found myself lately skipping museums, people etc (more quiet less rush). Every city can be great depending!!! or not!!!

I know, not much help regarding specific destinations, but I think the riviera (Italian/French) and Florence are to die for -depending of course on if you like sunshine, oceans, views, expensive stuff (cried at the prices and lived on bread and cheese (yummy).. I just read someone else's comment saying they did not like Florence much.

Underrated:
Chinon & Saumur (Loire Valley)
Merano, Italy (in Tyrol, not the Venetian island)
Verona (well-known, but still underrated)

Overrated
Toledo (Ok, fire away!)
Dublin (actually, a good time; but not much to see)

I find it fascinating that the person who originally asked this question hasn't chimed in with THEIR list. "Just curious"..more likely, just bored.
Subjective lists while away the time and accomplish little else.

Thanks for asking this question,I've had so much fun reading the responses! It reminds me to keep an open mind, experiences are completely subjective.
overrated-Florence,which for me felt saturated with tourists in March,I can't imagine July(but the OltroArno was a bit of fresh air.)
underrated- Rome. I had been told so many negative things about Rome, but when I first arrived two years ago,I absolutely fell head over heels in love!I have since returned twice as an annual "pilgrimmage." Romania-It's been ten years, but I found the people to be so warm and welcoming and the countryside lovely.

CITIES
Overrated: Prague..yes its beautiful but certainly not the most beautiful place or city in Europe and the city seems to be owned by the tourist industry
Underrated: Stockholm, a stunning mix of old and new...Hamburg, vibrant and diverse with lovely neighborhoods

REGIONS
Overrated
The Lake District (England)...pretty but less attractive than Scotland's Highlands and MANY places in mainland Europe
Underrated: Anyplace on Corsica..but maybe the French want to keep it a secret and have it all to themselves
