Most memorable 4 days in Edinburgh?

Hi,
Husband and I are taking inpromtu trip to Scotland for valentines day. Neither of us has been there so hope to hear your ideas.

How would you plan your ideal 4 days there this time of the year? We love the outdoors, the arts, history, architecture, FOOD and just take our time to soap in the local culture. We're in our 30's, experienced travelers, not on a budget, and eat everything. Thanks for your help.

I had some intention of replying to this, but ran out of time. I'll try to do so tonight.

Bumping this one up. Will use the answers to apply to our July 4th-ish trip.

Oh, but there is a difference: WE are in our 50's, experienced travelers, on a budget, and are vegetarians. Other than that we're pretty similar.

There is so much to do in Edinburgh, it's hard to list it all! Here are just a few ideas.... The Castle, The Museum of Scotland, Gallery of Modern Art, National Portrait Gallery, Scottish Parliament, walk up Arthur's Seat or the Crags, eat in one of hundreds of restaurants, have a drink in the Oxford Bar (Rebus's watering hole - Rankin's crime novels), dine or take tea at The Balmoral Hotel, Mary Kings Close - the old streets of Edin hidden underground, entrance on the Royal Mile, walk up the Royal Mile and see people spit on the Heart of Midlothian (an old tradition followed by some), spend a few hours in Leith with its pubs/rest/shops (the Royal Yacht is moored there too), visit Jools Holland's Jam Club in the evening, walk in Princes St gardens, go up the Scott Monument, take in a film at the Filmhouse, visit the Forth Rail Bridge, maybe have dinner overlooking it, it's illuminated at night.
I really hope you enjoy the city, it's a fabulous place to visit (and live), sometimes wet and sometimes cold, but that just adds to it! I could list hundreds of other things, but hope the above is of some use to you. If you want to know about anything in particular just ask. ps Try and book a table for dinner at The Witchery, you won't be disappointed!

Jedinburgh, do you have any suggestions of restaurants in the area for viewing the bridge at night? Sounds like a nice idea.

There are a few restaurants along the side of the river between South Queensferry and the rail bridge. A suggestion would be The Boathouse - great food and great views.

On the north bank of the river try a drink in one of the pubs in the village and then walk under the bridge to get a real feel for the scale of it.
