mosquitoes in Venice
Are there mosquitoes in Venice in the cold of December?Should I bring mosquito repellent? I would think they would not do well in the winter
|
we were there in May and another visit in January. None mosquitoes noted.
|
No mosquitoes in lat October. It was extremely warm (70's) and I was surprised that there was no smell from the canals, either.

No mosquitoes in December. Period.

If you feel a pinch on your rear, it's probably an Italian.
|
No mosquitos, but everything will smell musty, moldy and damp as a result of the current flooding.
|
Was there Nov 8-15. Had one mosquito buzzing around one night. The weather was cool and damp; rained a lot one day.

I've experienced Venice mosquitoes many times, including in Dec, Jan and Feb. It surprised me too. It was cold (below freezing sometimes) and a few would still be buzzing around the hotel room or apartment at night.
I had to wear an eye mask to keep them from biting me in the eye area, where they seem to always get me. It sounds like my experiences were the exception though. |
We were in Venice last January, and we definitely didn't encounter any mosquitoes. It was drizzly and rainy, and from the reports recently, I'd be more concerned with bringing some rubber boots with all the floods.
I wouldn't worry about mosquitoes :) |

People feel buzzing mobile phones in their pockets even when they do not have a mobile phone. Sometimes perception plays tricks on you. |
I was in Venice at the end of October. We definately had mosquitoes. I had the bites that itched to prove it!

That's weird, Barbann. We were in Venice Oct. 27-31 and never "met" one. (I'm not denying you saw them, just funny that we had different experiences:))
