Mosquitoes in Luzern/Interlaken?
 

We are traveling from mid to end of April to Luzern and Interlaken. With a lack of A/C in most of the hotels, are there mosquitoes that time of the year? The reason we asked is that we went to Frankfrut last Nov. (30 degrees), but still have mosquitoes attack us in the hotel room.

No mosquitoes.

We were there in May and down by the lake at dusk there were swarms of something (midges?) - but not mosquitos. But we didn't see them except right on the lake shore. We left our balcony door open and saw no bugs.

I'm glad to learn of the absence of mosquitoes in Switzerland as it would've shattered the country's image in my head!

Make sure you check the weather forecast before you pack. End of April is usually mild but in the mountains you never know!

Mosquitoes in Frankfurt by the end of November? Maybe they breed them especially for you! No joke, its possible that some survived until that time. But a better hotel shouldnt have any and in a cheaper its easy to ask the housemaid for a spray. By the way, an A/C is absolutely no guarantee for no mosquitos. Dont worry, there is no malaria in Middle Europe.
And if you are lucky and have some warmer days in Switzerland in April, those little bloodsuckers can also be there already. But its not very common for this time.

Thanks to all who replied. It is a relief for us and now, on to the task of finding a hotel :-)

In Lucerne, we love the Grand National (but very expensive) as it is right along the lakeside. At a more reasonable rate you will find the NH, Des Alpes, and Hotel de la Paix. Good locations. la Paix is quite "basic" but do-able.

Interlaken... we stayed at the Hotel du Lac (a Best Western, I think). It was a bit off the beaten path, along the "canal" and very close to the east train station. Within walking distance to the downtown area. A nice stroll, about 20 minutes. One of the neatest parts of staying in this hotel was sitting on our balcony and hearing the cow bells jingling on the cows that were on the green hillside directly across the canal from our room! Soothing sound... very SWISS...

We also stayed at (and really loved... off season is much more reasonable) the Beau Rivage, along the main street. We had a really nice corner room on the front side of the hotel, and the view was really grand.
