mosquitoes at lake orta, lake maggiore

I have heard that the mosquitoes are much worse at lake orta and southern part of lake maggiore than in other parts of northern Italy in July. Anyone have experience at these places end of June/early July? one traveler said last summer was very bad at Lake Orta, but that it may have been a bad year for mosquitoes throughout northern italy. Comments, please. I'm a mosquito magnet and want to see if this would have impact on our vacation, if we need a/c in rooms, etc. thanks so much.
