Moscow Favorites

My fiance and I will be in Moscow for 3 days in November!!

Since we only have such a short visit, would love to know how we could maximize our time experiencing the very best of Moscow. Do you have any favorites ...authentic Russian restaurants with views, advice how to easily get around.. cabs, Uber, taxi especially from the airport and also hotels in the center of the city. I was thinking of joining a walking tour if you've done this and could recommend a company. Is there a Vodka museum somewhere?

Thank you! :)

I liked the Red Square at night...many restaurants right there and nearby
My favorite restaurant is Bolshoi just around the corner from the theatre.
I stayed at Metropol hotel ...loved it.
Taxis are a real PITA...you basically have to negotiate the fare.
Never used Uber. Metro is excellent ,the signs are in Russian alphabet only.
Central Moscow is great...I visited twice and would gladly go back.

ps
there is a fast train from all airport to the metro system.

Tretyakov Gallery. Fantastic Russian paintings. One of my favorite museums ever.

Learn some of the Cyrillic alphabet. Helped immensely on the metro which is transportation you absolutely have to use or you can't really say you've experienced Moscow.

Restaurant: Noah's Ark. We were given a stick of Wrigley's spearmint gum with our dessert! Good food.

Additionally, if you want a restaurant with views try "White Rabbit". Very modern and very Russian.

Cafe Pushkin is very atmospheric and romantic but I did not care for the food.

The most memorable for me were the incredibly beautiful
Orthodox churches inside the Kremlin walls.

White Rabbit is gorgeous!! Love that one!

Thank you for all the suggestions! Do you know if there's ballet or opera in November?

I always use Uber when in Moscow, no more feeding taxi drivers. Most drivers don't speak English but it should be fine as long as you can find the driver on the app.

Uber - the best choice for taxi, it's safe and no cheating. Also you can use Gett - the same as Uber.

For airport transfer I can reccomend http://transferdesk.ru/en/. Meeting, assistance with luggage.

For example, from Domodedovo 24 euro. The same price from Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo. http://transferdesk.ru/en/domodedovo-airport-taxi. Uber will cost about 18 euro.

And in any case, do not use a taxi at the airport! Especially do not communicate with drivers who meet at the exit. The price for such taxi will be like from Moscow to Los Angeles by plane!

U Pirosmani has a view of Novodevichy Convent, cooking is Georgian and the restaurant has plenty of character. Food is not bad at all.

Aragvi in Tverskaya Ul Moscow does not have a view, it is or was downstairs and was very famous in it's day for it's interesting guests. I've eaten couple of times in this restaurant but it closed in 2003 and was opened last year after renovation, I would definitely go there next visit. The walls are now somewhat whitewashed, originally there were lots of murals on the walls and ceiling, mostly Soviet scenes. The cooking is Georgian and Armenian.

Uzbek Restaurant in Negglinaya Ul is pretty spectacular and Uzbek cuisine is very good. Convenient location in central Moscow.

There is restaurant at the top of Ostankino tower, you get a great view of Moscow if the weather allows.

Restaurant in the Metropol Hotel is amazing, Cafe Kranzler in the Baltschug Kempinski is a great place for coffee, cake or light meal.

I stayed at Metropol...agree about the restaurant.

Very nice!! I don't think I've had Georgian, Armenian or Uzbek food yet but trying it there for the first time is a treat. We may extend 1 or 2 more days considering all the places we'd like to see. Thank you so much for the transportation, food and restaurant suggestions.

-----"If you're not too familiar with food of Uzbekistan (which sits in Central Asia), Charles Perry of the Culinary Historians of Southern California gave L.A. Magazine a primer on the cuisine. He said:

Uzbek cuisine is a fusion of medieval Persian cuisine (tandoor breads, a particular hearty style of pilaf), nomadic Turkish elements (flatbreads, noodles, dairy products) and more recent elements from China (Turkic- and Chinese-speaking Muslim refugees brought their cuisine when they fled Xinjiang in the 1870s). The Chinese dishes are rather like dim sum, only made with (of course) lamb instead of pork and adapted to Central Asian tastes. Stalin moved a lot of Koreans to Uzbekistan because he considered them a security risk, and as a result, kimchi is now part of the Uzbek diet." -----

"We may extend 1 or 2 more days considering all the places we'd like to see."

Good idea.
On my first visit ,I spent more time in St Peresburg and only 3 nights in Moscow( 2.5 day).
I was so impressed that I returned the following year for 5 nights.
Could have stayed longer.
