Morgan Hotel is Full !! Can anyone suggest an alternative?

Well, I just received mail that the Morgan Hotel cannot put us up for Aug. 21-28. Can anyone suggest another hotel with a reasonable price like this and most importantly with AIR CONDITIONING (!!!) and either a lift or availability of room/rooms on ground floor with no stairs?

I would highly appreciate it!!

Thanks in advance.

Please tell us where the Morgan Hotel is?

Flame123 Jun 20th, 2006 09:36 PM

Sorry, the Morgan Hotel is in Bloomsbury.

You will probably have a hard-ish time findin a hotel in the same price range as the Morgan that has reliable a/c.

I would try Priceline - most London PL hotels in London are upscale-ish 4 star properties and mostly do have a/c. Check biddingfortravel.com for zone info and hotel descriptions . . . . . .

I have never used priceline before, don't know how. But I have read before that if you need 2 rooms, as we do, it is not a good method.

Anyone else??

janisj Jun 20th, 2006 10:19 PM

Oh - I didn't know you needed 2 rooms. What rate were you going to pay at the morgan?

You need not fly from Barcelona to Madrid, but can save a hotel night and take a train from Barcelona at 2300 to Madrid at 0800. Fares are 193 to 79 euros, depending on whether you have your own shower and toilet en suite, and whether you have one, two, or four beds in the room. Please see

janisj - since they were full, they did not give me a price. But I believe they are about 80-90 pounds Sterling per double room, including taxes and breakfast. That sounded very good to me so that is the ballpark figure I am trying to work with.

You can book two rooms on Priceline. I did it for my recent Scotland trip, booking a hotel near Heathrow for the first night and another one near Heathrow for my last night.

As I understand it, you can't book more than two rooms at a time, but two is OK.

Caveat: They may not/probably won't be near each other. In one case we were on different floors, in the other on opposite ends of the same floor. But, if that's important, maybe you could call the hotel (once the Priceline bid is accepted) and request that they hold two rooms close together?

We got really good rate for the rooms - the "expensive" one was $103 per night (US dollars!) and the other one was $80-something - both including taxes, etc.

So, I'd give it a try - only using 4* hotels, though, to get the AC you're looking for.

I would give the Bonnington in Bloomsbury a look. It's in the same class, price and neighborhood as the Morgan. All rooms have A/C and they've got a lift. The breakfast is substantial.

Agree that priceline will almost certainly meet your £ requirements and, as noted, you can book 2 rooms. But it's very unlikely that they'll be adjacent. We passed on using PL a few years ago when we allowed our daughter to bring a friend on the trip. Had to have adjacent rooms. I called a couple of the likely candidate hotels and got the answer I anticipated....we'll try and work with you but no guarantee. We ended up at the Bonnington.

If side by side rooms aren't a necessity, definitely consider PL.

Thanks obxgirl. I already wrote to Bonnington and they are also full!! Next???

Flame, we are leaving tomorrow (Thursday) for London and have reservations at St. George Hotel in Marylebone. http://www.stgeorge-hotel.net/ We also wanted a place with A/C. We're paying 100GPB per night. Maybe give them a try?

Flame123 Jun 21st, 2006 11:15 AM

sognodfn - thanks for the info. This hotel gets mixed reviews on trip advisor. Would you be so kind as to post when you return (when is that?) about your experience in this hotel? Thanks and have a good vacation.

Please see my posting about the Cavendish Hotel in St. James for 79 GBP from 22 July - 3 Sep. This rate also includes breakfast and a free upgrade to a deluxe room.

Flame--we'll be returning on July 1. I will try to give you any feedback about the hotel when I go to an internet cafe while in London. Thanks for your good wishes.

obxgirl Jun 21st, 2006 03:01 PM

Flame, I came up with rooms available August 21-28 at the Bonnington on a couple of internet websites when I double checked prices this morning. If it's still in your mix, say so and I'll go find the site names!

historytraveler Jun 21st, 2006 03:05 PM

Do you really want to wait much longer to book your rooms, especially with your specifications?

I've never stayed there but you might try The President. It's near Russell Square so not too far from Bloomsbury. Don't know if they have air. They do have a lift. It is a very basic hotel, but a friend use to stay there and was satisfied.

Flame123 Jun 21st, 2006 06:52 PM

sognodfn - thanks very much. I will await your report about the hotel.

obxgirl - absolutely yes. I would love the Bonnington. Please let me know which sites say they still have room? And how is that possible if the hotel them selves say they do not?

bettyk - thanks for your info. I will check it out.

obxgirl Jun 21st, 2006 07:54 PM

Flame,

These were the two places I checked earlier today:

http://www.regencyhotels.com/hotels/....asp~PageID=42

http://secure.roomsnet.com/FLR/FLR_HotelPage?
hotcode=H003&Origin=QS&AffCode=FLR&be= Y

I can't vouch for either website as I haven't used them, but they were ones I randomly picked on a google search. Sorry, wish I could explain why the Bonnington would say they are full. Maybe they keep a stock of rooms set aside for internet discounters.

Have you eliminated the PL option?

Flame123 Jun 22nd, 2006 12:06 AM

thanks obxgirl. I will check them out. Since I never have used PL, I would not know the first thing about it so I guess I have ruled them out. Meantime, I have found another place I have sent a request to - Twenty Nevern Square. Anyone heard of it or been there? Price is a bit more than I wanted but good reviews on trip advisor.
