Morgan Hotel Bloomsbury

We have stayed at the Morgan Hotel in Bloomsbury and loved the location.
We are planning a trip to London in September and it looks like the Morgan is booked.
Can anyone recommend a similar hotel in the area?
Thanks so much.

We’ve stayed at the Hoxton Holborn which is a few blocks from British museum. Very lively scene. This weekend we’re staying at the Raddison Blu Mercer street which is at Seven Dials in Convent garden and not far from Bloomsbury.

Thank you - we will check that out - we love the Covent Garden area too - I remember going to Courtauld Museum - little gem.

I'm pretty sure both the Hoxton's and and Radisson Blu's rates are substantially higher than the Morgan. The Morgan is sort of a unicorn -- amazing location with still modest room rates.

What is your budget per night? To get Morgan-esque rates you might have to look at the cheaper TraveLodge locations.

Yes you are correct about the higher rates. I am trying to keep it within the Morgan rates since we are staying for a week.
I know the rooms are small and there is no lift but it gets you out of the room in morning, especially with the breakfast included and then you are on your way.
We end up getting way more accomplished when you don't hang out in the room.

Booking also has apt rentals that might be cheaper than hotel rates plus you can make breakfast and bring in food.

The Travelodge Covent Garden looks interesting.
The price is right.
Reviews are up and down. Great location though.

A friend recommended the Grange Blooms Hotel. Their website doesn't seem to show any availability so I don't know what is going on but perhaps you can send them an email. Good luck!

Some TraveLodges are good and some are bad -- that one is in a great location and is very modern. I'd have no qualms about staying there. Some Premier Inns will be in the same price range but some (like County Hall) will be a lot more expensive. If you want modern and clean in a good location at a reasonable price, and don't care that much about 'style' or amenities the covent Garden TraveLodge is fine.

That Grange is part of a group of hotels that is being rebranded and going pretty far up market

I’ve walked by that hotel many times. Good location and if the price is right grab it!

I have looked into the Hoxton Holborn. Good location and very modern and clean. Really small rooms and not inexpensive

The Hoxton hotels are a growing chain that cater to youngish crowd and used to be a great price point. We’ve stayed in the Hoxton Shoreditch and Holborn 4 or 5 times. You can pick different size rooms ant different price points and you also get a small breakfast delivered to your room plus coffee or tea. Prices have definitely risen and although the ambience was fun the lobby and bar areas were so crowded with people hunkered down working and hanging out it was hard to find a seat at times. Decided to go more staid this trip and check out Raddison Blu Mercer Street. It’s expensive but everything is in London and I really like the location.

I'm liking the Travelodge Covent Garden. The chain properties are still having a difficult time with staffing problems so that accounts for some of the negative reviews. You just have to deal with it. We went on this site 20 years ago and got incredibly great advice and suggestions and made that first trip to London memorable. Thanks so much for the help. Invaluable!

You can probably get 2 nights at that TraveLodge for what one night at either the Hoxton or Radisson Blu would cost - maybe more. It is a terrific location with all the theatres and restaurants of Covent Garden and Seven Dials at the door step and being less than .25 mile from the British Museum.

Check out the Verona Cafe right across from Travelodge. It's one of the few places to get coffee early on a Sunday in Covent Garden. Family run, I think, pleasant place to sit outside.

The counter space at the Tate modern for a casual lunch has great views of the Thames and St. Paul.
