More than two in a room in a hotel in Rome?
 

Is this possible? I am having trouble finding a room in a nice hotel in Rome that will allowed 2 adults and two children ages 4 and 8. Please let me know if you have had this happened to you and how you resolved the matter. Also please give me some suggestions if you know of any hotels that will allowed a family of 4 like ourselves. Our plan is to travel on May 2004. We will only be staying in Rome for 3 or 4 days. Thank you.

My family of 5 stayed in an apartment very close to the Vatican. It was on Properzio, next to the Olympic Hotel. This "independent apartment" had 2 separate rooms for sleeping a total of 5 and a bath with shower. It was wonderfully air conditioned! There was a small refrigerator but no cooking facility. However, directly across the adjacent street was a market where we found inexpensive breakfast and lunch items. I don't have the web site handy but if you do a google search, you'll find it. Enter "independent apartment Properzio Rome". There is a web page with photos available. We paid 600 Euros for 4 nights in mid June. Believe me, the highly productive air conditioning units saved us during the hottest summer on record.

We stayed at the Hotel Miami with our children when they were about the same ages as your children. We had a quad room with 2 twin beds and a queen. It was a wonderful place! The staff were great with the kids, the room was very nice...and a large beautiful bathroom. The street it is on was busy, but not noisy...never had a problem sleeping. We walked everywhere...never needed a cab or metro...and it was safe at night. We would definitely go back!

In 2000 we stayed at the Minerva by the Pantheon. Typical American style hotel room with 2 double beds. Two adults and two children (ages 16 and 13) were allowed to share the same room.

If the Minerva still allows four people in a standard "double" room, they would be the exception. Most three star and above hotels require you to get either two rooms or a quad room (if available) for four persons. My girls are nine and six and we've taken them to Italy twice. On their first visit, we took two interconnecting double rooms at the St. Regis. Not wanting to spend that kind of money again, on their second trip, we took the quad (actually Senior Suite) at the Del Senato. It has a living room with double sofa bed, bedroom with double bed, hallway, large bathroom and huge terrace overlooking the Pantheon. It runs about 425 Euro per night. Since you are looking for a "nice" hotel, I highly recommend that room at the Del Senato.

We stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen, which is a short distance from Trevi Fountain. It's a nice hotel, small with nice rooms. We had a room with 4 twin beds, don't remember the cost...
