More taxi advice from CDG, Paris

Thanks to all of you re: car service in London. Booked!

My travel agent advised me that a private car in Paris would cost about $250 USD, one way. I have been told that the cost of a taxi from the airport to our hotel (in the 1st) would cost approx $60 USD.

Hi Sheila,

I have in my notes

From CDG to Paris there are the Paris Shuttle (parishuttle.com), and the Bee shuttle (bee-shuttle.com) about 15 E each. Bee shuttle charges 90 E for 4 people in a private van. Paris Shuttle charges 120E for a limo.

Also contact [email protected]--make it to the attention of EVELYN

Taxi fare from central Paris to CDG runs about 45 euro ($53); can vary somewhat according to amt. of luggage, traffic, location.

I am avid fan of car service in London from Heathrow and wouldn't go any other way.

But I have yet to find a really good alternative for two of us from CDG into Paris other than simply taking a taxi. It is the easiest way to go. I don't get the idea of the shuttles which generally cost about as much for two people as a taxi, yet has the added inconvenience of having to call for it on arrival, wait for it, and often having to go out of your way taking people to other hotels first.
I do, however, suggest you have the name and address of the hotel clearly written out for the taxi driver.

That is great advice. There will be a modest charge for luggage above what is on the meter. Don't take a cab without a meter.

Another option (if you've not heard already) is the Roissy bus. Leaves every 15min (every 20min after 7p) and costs 8.20E one way. It takes you to Opera. You should be able to get a taxi from there. Cuts your costs somewhat.

There's another option. Depending on where you're staying, an AirFrance Bus shuttle is reasonable. We still use the taxi, but one time this was a lifesaver because our reserved taxi did not show up for our return to the airport.

There are several different lines that serve different main drop-offs. The ones that might impact you are:

Bus line 2: CDG airport - Porte Maillot - Etoile
Bus line 3: CDG airport - Orly airport
Bus line 4: CDG airport - Gare de Lyon - Montparnasse

It just so happened we were a block from the Montparnasse TGV station, so this was almost as easy as getting a taxi. No reservation, great frequency, and rather cheap. Here are the details for that location:

Schedules:
7 am - 9 pm

Frequency:
every 30 minutes

Fares:
11.50 euro one-way
19.55 euro round-trip

Free for children
(0-2 years old)

50% discount for children (2-11 years old)

15% discount for four or more.

The seats were comfortable (I took a nap)and the underbus storage was a no-brainer, and our fare wasn't dependent on the traffic.

Please check this site: http://www.airfrance.com/double6/pas...P?OpenDocument
for a detailed summary.

We still use a taxi because most times, our location doesn't make this practical. But if I'm ever near a location near the drop-off/pick-up, I wouldn't hesitate to use the service.

One other warning. I can almost assure you that as you go toward the taxi line at the airport, some well dressed man will approach you, offer to help you with your luggage and ask if you need a taxi. DON'T DO IT unless you want to pay at least double for the privilege of taking these unregistered scam taxis.

Your travel agent is quite wrong about a private car price in Paris. Limo
services in Paris charge about 125 euro for that. Barons Limousine, Paris France Limo and Careys Limousine all charge about that. I think there are private car services that do it cheaper for airport runs (such as bluevan.com perhaps, I guess Ira named one above, also).

I don't see a reason to hire a limo or private car for tha, as taxis are much less and are private, of course. I did use Carey's Limo once upon arrival at CDG because I had several trips to run and needed them to wait, so it was a fee per hour which was reasonable, but I got a discount through an apt. rental agency. Their URL is www.sporting-limousine.com

It seems easier to just go out and get in a cab compared to reserving a private car, and a lot cheaper, also. Also, if your flight were delayed or something, you might have liabilities if you reserved a car.
