vmjk,

The 29th is a possibility. We will be going to the Vatican that day, but since the Vatican Museum closes at 1645, that would be the latest we would be there. Probably sooner, given that we plan to do the museum first thing in the morning to beat the crowds to the Sistine Chapel (we hope, anyway), and then would tour St. Peter's and climb the dome after that. I'm guessing we'll be there from 830 until roughly 1500. How about a late afternoon (say in the 1600 range) meeting in Piazza Navona or near the Pantheon for some wine and cheese or gelato or both? Name the spot, and we'll do our best to be there. Look forward to your reply.

There is Giolitti gelateria at the Piazza della Rotunda near the Pantheon. Some fodorites say it is among the best, but I have not sampled it. A wine and cheese followed by some gelato would be super, but I dont know the wine and cheese-eries in the area. So..late afternoon...1600-ish? later?
Either by the fountain or in/in front of Giolitti. We will try our best to be there. Again, apologies if we fail.
We leave Monday.
Now if only I can finish packing for 2+ weeks in a Rick Steves carry-on, and keep it under 22 lbs.....
When do you leave?

We leave on 9/26, flying into Rome on Alitalia out of Newark (via Atlanta from South Carolina...FF tickets).

Giolitti sounds great...I was just scanning the "best gelateria" thread and saw the glowing reviews.

1600 sounds reasonable...of course, we'd request courtesy until at least 1630 (in case we'd get lost, or just be a little late). However, once my wife hears 1600, she'll keep me to it!

We're getting our stuff together...my goal is to be packed one week in advance. We're taking two carry-ons and a small backpack (and my wife's small shoulder bag) for our 15 days, and that includes hiking gear as well.

How will we pick you out? E-mail me at [email protected] and we'll figure this out!
