mopeds/driving in Crete

Is it sane for a couple in their 50s to tour Crete via moped?
Suggestions on day trips anyone?
we will be there for a week in mid May this year. Hiking and small town exploring is our interest. We will be based out of Chania.
Thanks in advance.

Not unless you ride them frequently at home.

These aren't toys - and accidents are endemic. And road burn - picking all the gravel out of your skin isn't fun.

Touring Crete in a moped is not a good idea for anyone. The Greeks are notoriously unsafe drivers. They drive on the wrong side of the road, pass on the right, and go way to fast. Rent a car. They are not expensive, and you will enjoy your exploring and hiking much more.

Thanks for the advice. As I call motorcycle drivers organ donors ...should know the answer. Just a romantic thought to tool about on a putt putt!

I have never seen so many leg and arm casts as on Greek islands. On tourists.
