Moo-ving the Cows
I'll be in Interlaken on Oct 1 when the moo-ving of the cows will take place in Kerns from about 11am - 2pm.
Will have a car so will drive to Kerns. Thinking of going to Ballenberg Outdoor Museum on my way back to Interlaken. Will that allow me enough time to see the outdoor museum? If I do the museum this way, is it worth it to take a cruise on the lake later in the week? I'm planning on driving around Lake Thun to see everything on that side. Thanks in advance. |
Should have mentioned that I will have already taken lake cruises on Lakes Zurich and Lucerne and, after leaving Interlaken, on Lake Geneva possibly.

You won't see the whole museum but will get a taste of the architecture in Switzerland.
Where did you find the information regarding Kerns? While you are there, you might want to check out Flueli-Ranft and the original house of Bruder Klaus. It's an old house which is still in its original condition. Seeing this old house might satisfy your desire to see other old houses. |
Hi Schuler,
Thanks very much for the info! I think I will visit Fleuli-Ranft while in the area. I found the info on Kerns here: http://www.melchsee-frutt.ch/de/page...ug_kerns/94010 Looked at the Ballenberg Outdoor Museum website, it seems like a full day may be needed there! Thanks again! |
Hi Joan,
No problem. I might send some American visitors to Kerns on Oct. 1 too! It's a nice village in a beautiful area of Switzerland. |
It sounds like fun and a perfect photo op!

I just loved our trip to the Berner Oberland. The 'chocolate milk' (brown and white) cows were everywhere. You could hear their bells around their necks clinking, clinking in the distance. One even walked right up to me on a hike. Kind of startled me. Those cows are really big up close. What a fun thing for you to be able to do. Post some pics when you get back. I'd love to see it.

We visited Ballenberg a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, I do think we spent most of the day there just ambling thru. If you get a chance I would definitely try to make it. Enjoy Switzerland.

Thanks very much for your responses, Michele and Susan!
I'm sure I'm going to enjoy both the Alpabfahrt and Ballenberg! Going to save Ballenberg for a separate day. Looking forward to it... leave Sept. 22. |
Thanks for posting about this. We will be in the area and may go check out these bell-wearing bovines.
I see that the Tell Pass is 2 for 1 in Sept-Oct. Any discount is great but it sure favours even-numbered travel parties. http://www.sommer-tellpass.ch/en/ |
joannyc - last September we spent 1 week in northern Italy and 2 weeks in Germany, one of our goals was to visit several small towns in Germany for their viehscheid celebrations where they bring the cows down from the mountains, so much fun, here is a link to one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkrD3...eature=related
Enjoy your trip. Susan |
Reddun, thanks very much for the tip about the Tell Pass. I'll be traveling solo so, unfortunately, it won't be beneficial for me.
Susan, thanks so much for the link! Guess I better bring my earplugs that day, eh??? LOL! It's going to be fun, fun, fun! Thank you both! |
