Monty Python in London
 

Hello! I am considering a quick trip to London. I am a huge Monty Python fan. Are there tours that lean towards such tastes?

I tried a quick google search of Monty Python London Tour, but didn't find anything jumping out at me. Lots of tour companies were there, tho and I imagine if you click on their search options for Monty Python, you could pull up something, if it is offered.

Depending on what you are willing to pay, a customized tour might be an option.

I recall a Monty Python special where they showed, "Here is where Cleese did the Ministry of Funny Walks bit." They also had me screaming with laughter over the Death of Graham Chapman; he is a dead Graham, he has ceased to BE, etc. etc.

Sorry to know of nothing specific. Perhaps someone else will know.

On second thought, let's not go to London. It is a silly place...

I would be surprised if there were such a thing - Monty Python don't have quite the fame of Jack the Ripper or The Beatles. Although I'm sure there's a fan club who might give you some information if you try searching on google.

Another big Monty Python fan here. Coincidentally, I just read about about a new, and very pricey, coffee table book about them...

I have been looking for such a thing for years. In the special Pythonland, done for the thirtieth anniversary of the airing of the first show, Michale Palin visited several locations in London where various sketches were filmed. For a long time I was also in contact with an author who was writing a Monty Python book that detailed a lot of the filming locations. The problem is, according to this author, many of the locations are not even listed on the original BBC materials. Palin did mention a guidebook of Python locations, the first attempt at such a thing, but it was written in Japanese, and I haven't even been able to find it. There are lots of guides for locations for Holy Grail, but precious little about the original series. A few you can find without a lot of trouble:

Olympic Hide and Seek (opening): Trafalgar Square.

Nationwide: Westminster Bridge (southeast end).

Fish Slapping Dance: Teddington Lock.

Gas Cooker Sketch: 94 Thorpebank Road

Ministry of Silly Walks (opening): 107 Thorpebank Road.

Almost forgot:

Upperclass Twit of the Year: Hurlingham Park. The original stands where the people sat during the sketch were apparently torn down about 10-12 years ago.
